Food Recalls Begin as Strict Labeling Takes Effect PDF Print E-mail
This week in food news highlighted two product recalls due to “undeclared” milk ingredients.  Galaxy Nutritional Foods, Inc. of Orlando, Florida is voluntarily recalling their 4 oz. "Vegan Parmesan Flavor Grated Soy Topping" specifically.  Those products affected by the recall have the expiration dates 04/01/07, 04/15/07, 04/29/07, and 5/27/07.  Likewise ConAgra Foods® has recalled approximately 16,716 pounds of jumbo franks!
The product label indicates that the package contains jumbo franks made with turkey and pork; however, the package may contain cheese smoked sausage made with pork and turkey. They are recalling the following product: 16-ounce vacuum packages of "Eckrich®, Jumbo Franks, Made with Turkey, Pork.”  Each label has the establishment number "1941", a lot code of "3F", the manufacturer’s code "0549082306", and the sell by date, "AUG 23, 2006."  Both companies realized the error of their ways internally, and have voluntarily recalled these products.  No illnesses have been reported from either product.  Nonetheless, it is good to see manufacturers maintaining diligence in compliance with food allergen identification and labeling.
