More Reasons & Recipes to Enjoy Blueberries PDF Print E-mail
BlueberriesAlisa Fleming - While the grapefruit is getting a bad rap, the sweet, innocent blueberry is once again being exalted further up the ladder of superfood status.  Scientists at Rutgers University and the USDA conducted a joint study, and found that blueberries show promise in the prevention of colon cancer. A compound in blueberries that looks impossible to pronounce, let alone spell, seemed to lessen pre-cancerous lesions and inhibit genes that are involved in inflammation.

They aren’t viewing the little berries as a cure for colon cancer, but rather as a part of the strategy for preventing colon cancer naturally.  Pair this research with the high antioxidant levels in blueberries and their potential cholesterol-lowering properties, for some excellent reasons to enjoy what would seem to be one of “nature’s perfect foods.”
