Major Grocery Chain Says 'No' to Hormones in Milk PDF Print E-mail

Kroger Co. announced a major policy change to sell only hormone-free milk in its stores.  While the move was based upon consumer demand, rather than health concerns, the shift is still viewed as a step forward for the consumer and a major blow to the rBST monopoly otherwise known as Monsanto.

Krogers plans to complete the transition of milk it processes and sells in its stores to a certified rBST-free supply by February 2008.  Kroger stores in which we can expect to see this change includeCity Market, Dillons, Fry's, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, QFC, Ralphs and Smith's divisions and Kroger stores in Louisiana and Texas.

Earlier in 2007, Krogers transitioned the milk it sells in stores in the Western region of the Country to hormone-free supplies.

While the FDA concluded that there was no difference between milk derived from cows treated with rBST and those that have not been treated, consumers aren't buying it.  They continue to vote against the FDA report with their dollars.  Who says your vote doesn't count?
