Celebrate the Flavors of the Season PDF Print E-mail

Pumpkin Spice SilkThere are certain flavors we tend to automatically associate with the fall and winter months, just as the holidays approach.  A few of my personal favorites include pumpkin, peppermint (when paired with chocolate of course), and egg nog.  Okay, that last one is more of a stand-alone indulgence than a flavor, but it does exude that holiday spirit nonetheless.  While these indulgences are usually off limits for special diets, a few great products promise some delicious seasonal flavor along with a vegan (dairy-free & egg-free), low fat, and gluten-free profile...

Many await those precious months when egg nog graces store shelves.  Luckily, for those of us who live without dairy and/or eggs, “soy nog” is now available.  In fact, there are two brands, Silk Nog and Vitasoy’s Holly Nog.  I must say, they are quite tasty.

Now, if that nog flavor isn’t your thing, both companies have come out with their own new flavors for the holidays.  Try some Silk Pumpkin Spice, warmed with a touch of nutmeg or Vitasoy’s Peppermint Chocolate Beverage for an invigorating sweet treat.

Silk is sold in the refrigerated section at your local grocer and in natural food stores.  Check the natural food shelves for VitaSoy, it is sold in shelf-stable aseptic packages.  Prefer homemade?  Try this recipe for a quick Vegan Pumpkin Nog or your own Spiked Soy Nog.

Venturing beyond beverages, I must mention some new dairy-free, gluten-free ravioli.  Yes, you heard me, a GFCF stuffed ravioli!  Those gluten-free guys out of NYC, are churning out pumpkin ravioli in the name of Everybody EatsGive them a call for more information and to order your GFCF ravioli (the chicken is also dairy-free) and challah.
