Booja Booja Ice CreamAlisa Fleming, www.GoDairyFree.org ~ Yaoh, the producers of the annual Bristol Vegan Fayre, recently announced the winners of their 2008 Vegan Environmental Awards. The winner lists included vegan entertainers, shows and events, publications, etc.  But, my mind is always on food, so the Best Dairy Alternative category was the first one I latched onto.  The overall winner was Booja Booja Ice Cream.  A thick and luxurious nut-based ice cream, that is amazingly free of dairy, gluten, and soy.  No, it isn’t in North America, we will just have to be jealous of the wonderful vegan “ice  cream” in the UK.  However, a few of the nominees are available internationally …

The nominees with their percent of votes were:

Booja Booja Ice Cream (21.4%)
Bute Island Sheese (19.9%)
Swedish Glace Ice Cream (17.2%)
Plamil Mayonnaise (11.6%)
B’Nice Ice Cream (11.6%)
Redwood Meltin’ Cheezly (10.1%)
Shakeaway vegan milkshakes (6.0%)
Zedz Muffins (2.1%)

The full results for all 8 categories of the 2008 Vegan Environmental Awards, each with 8 nominees are here.

Yaoh will open the polls for the 2009 Awards later in 2008.  The 2009 awards will have, you guessed it, 9 categories with 9 nominees in each.
