Cascioppo Brothers Meats Recalls Frozen Sausage Products Due To Undeclared Milk and Soy PDF Print E-mail

September 11, 2009 - Cascioppo Brothers Meats, Inc., a Seattle, Wash., establishment, is recalling approximately 2,000 pounds of frozen sausage products because they may contain undeclared allergens, milk and soy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today. Milk and soy are known allergens, but are not declared on the labels.

The following products are subject to recall:

10-pound cases containing two (2) 5-pound chubs of Cascioppo Sausage brand "LINGUISA SAUSAGE." Each label bears one of the following identifying case codes: "08240826;" "08170818;" "07140716;" "07270728;" "07270727;" "06290701;" "06170617;" "05180518;" "04270429;" "02230225;" "03110312;" or "09020903."

10-pound cases of Cascioppo Sausage brand "LINGUISA SAUSAGE LINKS." Each label bears one of the following identifying case codes: "08240826;" "08170818;" "07140716;" "07270728;" "07270727;" "06290701;" "06170617;" "05180518;" "04270429;" "02230225;" "03110312;" or "09020903."

The cases bear the establishment number "EST. 17428" within the USDA Mark of Inspection and also advise "KEEP REFRIGERATED." The frozen sausage products were produced on various dates between March 10, 2009 and September 10, 2009, and were distributed to restaurants and FSIS-inspected establishments for further processing in Washington.

The problem was discovered by FSIS during a routine label review. FSIS has received no reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an allergic reaction should contact a physician. FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers, including restaurants, of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Consumer and media questions regarding the recall should be directed to Tony Cascioppo at (206) 719-7905.

Consumers with food safety questions can "Ask Karen," the FSIS virtual representative available 24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov. The toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) is available in English and Spanish and can be reached from l0 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday. Recorded food safety messages are available 24 hours a day.
