Chipotle's simple menu has offered a vegan/vegetarian option for as long as I can remember, but they are stepping it up a notch by testing out a new vegan filling for their burritos and tacos. The new vegan selection is being tested in the following markets: Roseville (Sacramento, California), two in Los Angeles, Denver (Chipotle's home base), New York City, and Washington, D.C. It seems this option became available in late April. However, there is no word yet on if the vegan filling will be offered in other markets. I am sure if it is a hit, they will roll it out nationwide. “We’re still playing with the recipe,” said Chris Arnold, director of public relations with Chipotle. “We don’t have any data yet. But we have had a lot of interest from customers for something like this from all across the country." The "garden blend filling" is made of a soy and vegetable protein, dipped in adobo marinade, and grilled.
Most of Chipotle's current offerings are dairy-free, if ordered without cheese and sour cream. Their guacamole is also dairy-free (just avocados), but they won't yet substitute the cheese and sour cream with guacamole without a surcharge. Something we hope that they will change in the future. |
