New Energy Superfood from Amazing Grass with a Twist of Citrus PDF Print E-mail

Amazing Grass Lemon Lime Energy Green SuperfoodA few months ago when Amazing Grass GreenSuperfood went on sale at Whole Foods, I made up excuses for why my husband and I should make the 45 minute trek, over the mountain pass for a shopping venture. Of course, we did a full shopping trip and enjoyed a lunch out, but my secret mission was to get a deal on some Superfood. I can’t tell you what it is about the stuff, but I simply love it. Both the Berry and Chocolate versions from the Kidz and “Adult” lines add sweet flavor to my smoothies and somehow leave me with a feeling of well being.

But as much as I love every Superfood variety I have tried to date, I am always skeptical when a new version arrives on the scene … and this time around was no exception. It boasts a High Energy Infusion with matcha and yerba mate. Hmm, green tea I like (a bit), but yerba mate? Not so much. And the flavor, lemon lime, isn’t high on my list of fruity favorites.

When, oh when will I finally learn to just trust Amazing Grass and their team of product creators? The new Lemon Lime Energy Drink Powder is a fantastic new addition …

Though I still prefer the berry and chocolate flavor-wise, the lemon lime actually has a slightly sweet taste that adds some spring to my smoothies. As for that high energy infusion … I didn’t even notice a taste of matcha or yerba mate (thank goodness) but I did notice an almost immediate boost in my energy!

I first sampled it straight (with ice water) after a high energy workout. I was fatigued, but a scoop of this powder perked me up and actually kept me going long enough to make a nice dinner. Reportedly, caffeine (this boasts 85mg per serving) also helps with muscle recovery.

Nonetheless, like all of Amazing Grass’s Superfood powders, I am not a fan of it straight up. Though the flavor is okay, it has a slightly gritty texture (think a more powdery hemp protein) that doesn’t completely dissolve in plain liquid. The mossy green look also isn’t the most appealing looking beverage, but as many of you know, looks can be deceiving, especially when it comes to smoothies …

So for my next taste, I went back to my traditional method of consumption, and added fruit for a quick and energizing smoothie (pictured above). It was morning, I was tired, and my stomach wasn’t yet awake. I chose a light blend of 1 cup watermelon, a handful of sliced frozen strawberries, a wee bit of water, and a scoop of this new Energy Superfood. Wow, not only did it taste great and go down easily, but it woke me right up! My brain felt sharper and I was ready to take on the day.

Honestly, I am not someone who can usually tolerate caffeine, but the overall blend seemed to work for me without creating the jitters or a corresponding crash. I love it! Now if only I can convince the people of Amazing Grass to make an energy version of their Berry or Chocolate Superfoods.

Free-From Note: Amazing Grass Superfoods are Vegan / Vegetarian (Dairy-Free and Egg-Free), Soy-Free, and Gluten-Free. They do contain wheat grass and barley grass, but these are the grasses, not the grains. It is also low in calories (just 30 per serving) so it is more of a supplement than a meal replacer.

Lemon Lime Energy SuperFood Ingredients: organic wheat grass, organic barley grass, organic alfalfa, organic spirulina, organic spinach, organic chlorella (cracked cell-wall), organic broccoli, organic yerba mate extract, organic matcha green tea, organic acai, organic maca, organic carrot, organic beet, organic rose hips, Organic pineapple, acerola cherry, organic flax seed powder, apple pectin fiber, F.O.S.
