As an addict of Almond Breeze's unsweetened almond milk, I was a bit perturbed when Trader Joe's opted to only carry the unsweetened vanilla and chocolate rather than the more versatile original. After finally giving into their mis-guided buyers, I picked up a single package of the Unsweetened Chocolate. Yet, as expected, it sat on my shelf for a good month. Trying to give it some additional exposure, I upgraded the package to the fridge ... where it chilled rather thoroughly... for another month. At last, today some chocolate cravings kicked in causing me to finally break the seal. |

Susan Russo, Fit Fare - It’s August, which means three things: It’s hot. You don’t feel like cooking. And farmers’ markets are in full swing, offering everything from juicy melons to crunchy corn. That’s why it’s the perfect time to make some salsas. They’re fast to prepare, refreshing to eat, and endlessly versatile. Though the queen of all salsas, pico de gallo (tomatoes, white onions, lime, and cilantro), remains an old-time favorite with a basket of warm tortilla chips, why not try something new? |

Cate O'Malley, A Nice Cuppa - For those looking for a caffeine bolster in the dog days of summer, a tall glass of iced tea might be just the ticket. But instead of going with the same old, same old, try these new twists from Better Homes and Gardens and perk up your summertime tea: |

Pickel, My Two Boys - Now that we are all purchasing school supplies there are some of us who need to be especially careful when it comes to ingredients. There are many brands of school supplies that contain gluten, casein, and corn, dietary ingredients that I work very diligently to keep out of [my son's] diet. |

Faith Kramer, Sugar Savvy & Blog Appetit - It was hot, muggy and steamy on the streets of New York during my recent visit. How did I keep my cool and enjoy a treat without suffering a chocolate meltdown? Why, I just indulged in a refreshing chocolate Italian ice. Italian ices are well known on the East Coast, especially in the Mid-Atlantic states. They are smoother than granitas, softer than sorbets and just generally different. They are also incredibly refreshing. |

Alisa Fleming - Over the past few months, I must confess that my interest in cooking had all but vanished. Somehow the effort required to seek out ingredients and spend that extra time in the kitchen to discover new recipes just didn't seem worth it. Luckily, a surge of interesting (and well, not so interesting) cookbooks have renewed my curiosity in trialing new dishes. With four new cookbooks in hand, I am once again enjoying the pleasures of a home cooked meal... |

Jessica Su, Su Good Eats - Chocolate is my undoing year round, but ice cream is my undoing during the summer. I love nudging it with my tongue and letting it gracefully melt away. But every so often, a little voice nags me: “You shouldn’t eat so much ice cream because it’s bad…
…for the environment.” I bet you thought I was going to say it was bad for you. True, but did you know that one cup of milk yields 116 pounds of cow manure? Not only is manure trash, but its stinky gases contribute to global warming. It also takes 14 trillion gallons of irrigation water and 22 billion pounds of fertilizer to produce feed for U.S. livestock each year. The amount of energy it takes to produce that fertilizer could provide power to 1 million Americans a year. |
