New Soy-Free, Dairy-Free Yogurt Exceeds Expectations PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 22 July 2008

So Delicious Coconut Milk YogurtHannah Kaminsky, My Sweet Vegan ~ As concerns about eating processed soy are surfacing more often these days, Turtle Mountain's innovative thinking seems to come at the perfect time.  I'm not only talking about their delicious ice cream line, but also their latest and perhaps more healthful development: Coconut Yogurt!  Carving out their own niche in the non-dairy arena, it's exciting just to know that there are more options out there, especially for those who are soy-adverse.  Available in six different flavors, there are enough options to satisfy anyone's tastes, and even give those big name dairy yogurts a run for their money ... Creamy Eggplant Paprikash Recipe PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 21 July 2008

eggplantpaprikash2.jpgAlisa Fleming, www.GoDairyFree.org ~ While hearty dishes rich with sour cream may not come to mind in the midst of summer, there is something about this vegetable based dish that fits so nicely with the season. After all, eggplants (otherwise known as aubergines) are reaching near-perfection with smooth skin that glows with a beautiful deep purple hue, bell peppers have come down from their astronomical prices of winter, and you can even use a pound freshly diced tomatoes from your garden.  Not to mention, who can resist the combination of creamy and dairy-free?

Chill Out with Soba Sesame Noodles PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 20 July 2008

Cold Soba Sesame NoodlesHannah Kaminsky, My Sweet Vegan ~ It’s that time of year again; the time when it’s become difficult to fathom turning on the oven, despite the abundance of fruits and veggies at their prime. Every blogger in the northern hemisphere has already put in their two cents about the oppressive heat and humidity, so I’ll just keep this brief and remind you that it is hot out. Already a bit drained from baking and writing marathons, trying to make ends meet so that my next cookbook comes together in a timely manner, it’s a challenge to turn out decent meals on a regular basis. Sure, cake makes a great breakfast, and some times even lunch and snack, but really, one can not live by cake [or ice cream, or pie, or cookies] alone. So in a time of need, here’s one of my rare savory dishes that helps me through times of heat and time constraints, that even my parents enjoy ...

Living With Food Allergies Carnival of Entertaining Blog Posts PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 July 2008

Alisa Fleming, www.GoDairyFree.org ~ For the past many months I have been a part of a secret underground world of food allergy bloggers.  Okay, it is far from secret, and it is pretty much out there on the net available for anyone to see ... but until now I had not connected that food allergy network to Go Dairy Free, a place where it really deserves some recognition.  So this month Go Dairy Free is playing host to the Living with Food Allergies Carnival, a bi-weekly collection of blog posts on food allergies - from recipes to Disneyland adventures!  You can become a Carnie yourself, submitting your own posts to future editions, or simply follow the traveling online show to read more interesting posts related to food allergies.  But for now, without further ado, here is today's edition ....

Fresh Strawberry Pie PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 06 July 2008

Bob's Strawberry PieAlisa Fleming, www.GoDairyFree.org ~ I still have memories of going strawberry picking with my mother every year while growing up in Portland.  We would pick an entire flat (okay, my mom would pick a flat, I would pick a bucket, and my sister would just sit there eating the berries off the bushes), and my mom would magically transform those bright red berries into a freezer full of homemade jam.  While I loved the jam, a nice Strawberry Pie (such as the one below!) would have been a welcome change of pace.  The following recipe is from The Bob's Red Mill Baking Book.  We have altered it ever so slightly to use margarine rather than butter in the pie filling (making it both dairy-free and vegan), but the rest was left untouched.  Happy strawberry season! ...
