Once you get past the super-annoying flash website (hopefully they change it someday), Chipotle reveals some incredible things about their cooking style. Rather than a "can eat" list as with our other fast food listings, we get to be a little more liberal and simply tell you what not to order, as the Chiptole menu is really wide open to the dairy-free consumer. Since the specific ingredients are not detailed out on their website, I contacted customer service. This is the plain and simple response I received: "The only dairy is in our cheese and sour cream." Yes, hold the cheese and sour cream, and this place is a dairy-free mecca! Of course, those with severe allergies should take extra precaution on cross-contamination issues. Now there are a few other great things we discovered on their website: - Vegan Option: As stated in the FAQ's at our time of viewing, "You should avoid our pinto beans (they are cooked with a small amount of bacon), meats (duh, I know), cheese, sour cream, and chipotle-honey vinaigrette." There are other beans and dressings on the menu though, so there should still be a lot of vegan options.
- For those who are seeking meat options, Chipotle serves only meat that is meets the standards of no antibiotics, ever; no added growth hormones, ever; and vegetarian fed, never given animal by-products.
Foods at Chipotle have no artificial colors or artificial flavorings. - Their foods contain zero trans fats. "Although by law we can say that our large burrito tortillas and our small soft taco tortillas contain zero trans fatty acids, they actually contain a negligible amount. Since a serving of our large burrito tortillas and our small soft taco tortillas contains less than 0.5 gram of TFAs, we are required by the FDA to declare the content of these tortillas as "zero” grams. The rest of our foods do not contain any trans fats at all. "
- They use no sugar (although there is honey in the vinaigrette) in our foods.
- They use no peanuts, tree nuts or any other kind of nuts in our foods, and there are no eggs in their foods.
Chipotle is the largest restaurant buyer of avocados and naturally raised meats in the country. - They have onlly had one change in their menu in 13 years—the addition of salads (and chipotle-honey vinaigrette) in 2005.
