SubwayDue to the way Subway sandwiches are prepared, cross contamination with dairy-containing ingredients is a risk (as with any fast food restauarant). The sandwich preparer should change their gloves and use a fresh wrapper (watch for this), but still use caution if you have a severe food allergy. It is at least nice that you can easily watch them prepare your food!

No Dairy (Milk) Ingredients (use caution due to cross-contamination potential):

  • Sandwiches (no cheese requested) - Cold Cut Combo, Black Forest Ham, Italian BMT, Oven Roasted Chicken, Roast Beef, Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki, Seafood Sensation, Tuna, Turkey Breast, Turkey Breast & Ham, Spicy Italian, Subway Club, Veggie Delite
  • Salads (no cheese requested) -  Cold Cut Combo, Black Forest Ham, Italian BMT, Oven Roasted Chicken, Roast Beef, Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki, Seafood Sensation, Tuna, Turkey Breast, Turkey Breast & Ham, Spicy Italian, Subway Club, Veggie Delite
  • Breads & Wraps - Light Wheat English Muffin, Hearty Italian, Honey Oat, White Italian, Roasted Garlic, Sourdough, 9-Grain Wheat, and Wrap
  • Meats, Poultry, & Seafood - Bacon Strips, Oven Roasted Chicken, Chicken Strips (plain and teriyaki glazed), Egg White Omelet, Ham, Roast Beef, Seafood Sensation Blend, Steak, Tuna, Turkey Breast, Italian BMT Meats, and Cold Cut Combo Meats
  • Condiments & Dressings - Buffalo Sauce, Honey Mustard Sauce, Light & Regular Mayo, All Mustards, Oil & Vinegar, and Sweet Onion Sauce
  • Vegetable Toppings - All

Kelly from the Go Dairy Free Facebook Fan Page: "Subway is also amazing! They don't fuss a bit when I tell them my dairy allergy. They get new gloves and a clean knife and one place even sanitized!"

what about the meatballs and sauce?
The meatballs do contain milk, though I don't know if it is in the marinara or in the meatballs themselves. Really it could be either. I would guess that the culprit is cheese, but whey is used a lot in food manufacturing such as this too.

what about the meatballs and sauce?
About a couple months ago, I was told by a Subway manager that all their breads and wraps have milk in them which was added for calcium.

Yes, that is the link at the top of each fast food dining post also. See the Allergen Chart link above at the very beginning of this page.

Why is it marked that some have lactic acid etc in them? Do they qualify as dairy? Thanks!

what about the meatballs and sauce?
Lactic acid is not necessarily derived from dairy, it is usually derived from other food sources. However, lactic acid starter culture is more often dairy.

what about the meatballs and sauce?
Only the breads with a cheese in their name have dairy, according to their allergen chart.
