White Castle

Before White Castle published allergen information [see below for updates], Tony, a Go Dairy Free viewer, was kind enough to email in the following feedback in June 2010 that he received from White Castle's customer service in terms of their dairy-free options:

"Thank you for contacting us regarding your dairy allergy; our burgers themselves are 100% beef, and our buns do not contain milk products. Likewise our Pulled Pork sandwiches are free of dairy products. Our French fries and our Onion Rings served in Chicago, St. Louis, Louisville & Nashville are also dairy free. All of our other breaded and/or fried products contain dairy—Chicken Rings included. Unfortunately our sausage for our breakfast sandwiches includes dairy protein, and thus precludes that item as well as our other breakfast sandwiches due to cross contamination. Many bakery items – donuts for instance- are purchased locally – please check with the Castle for more information regarding the ingredients of these items. If cross contamination due to items containing dairy being fried in the same oil as items that do not is a concern, you may wish to refrain from eating our fried products all together.

As our products and suppliers can vary from region to region, and in the case of fish, from season to season, we can not supply you with a complete ingredient list for all products. If the information enclosed is not sufficient or you have cross contamination concerns, please contact this office and give us further information as to the nature of the allergen or sensitivity, the specific products you are requesting information about, and in what Regions or areas you will be consuming our food.

White Castle urges you to always check those ingredients before risking adverse reactions due to food allergies. White Castle uses only partially hydrogenated soybean oil in its fryers (except in New York City and New Jersey Castles where we use zero trans fat* soybean oil). Due to volatility in our suppliers and other considerations, we do not publish a comprehensive allergen guide at this time." [see below as they now have an allergen chart]

Thanks to Matt, a Go Dairy Free viewer, for alerting us to the allergen chart added to White Castle's website in November 2010. Here is the latest details from our most recent review (see below for link to the full allergen chart)
