Thank you to Bethany for letting us know about a great restaurant in NYC that actually caters to dairy-free specifically, without being a vegan-centric restaruant:

"I've been researching dairy-free restaurants in NYC since we are planning to visit there soon.

Most dairy-free places there are vegan, but there is one non-vegan restaurant that I'm excited to check out.  It's Josie's West, which claims its appetizers and entrees are dairy-free, except where cheese is noted.  (You can substitute soy cheese, but I'm not sure if it is casein-free.)  It also notes several dairy-free desserts. 

The chef has written a book about cooking dairy-free.  I am looking forward to ordering there!
