Veggie Booty Recall

Veggie BootyThe FDA has issued a recall on the popular vegan snack, Veggie Booty by Robert’s American Gourmet.  As of Thursday, June 28 2007, the FDA stated that at least 52 people in 17 states had become sick after eating Veggie Booty, as it is suspected of carrying Salmonella food poisoning.

Soy Maple SalmonJanelle, Talk of Tomatoes - I paid $16.31 for a sliver of salmon yesterday. Just a sliver, enough for one, barely two if you piled the plate high with grilled veggies. Rice or couscous wouldn’t be a bad idea, either, since you won’t have the heart to leave any of the sauce behind.

Organic Certified Loses Purity

 Over the years, I have counted on the organic label for quickly identifying foods worth consideration. Legible ingredient statements with only "real" foods listed have definite appeal. Not to mention, with the high cost of organic milk and cheese, a very high percentage of organic foods are dairy-free, even when their conventional counterparts are not. Thanks to the USDA, it looks like this organic trust is about to be broken.

Whole Soy & Co.Alisa Fleming - Sure, why not?  After all, in 1937 National Milk Month was proclaimed for the month of June as a marketing move to push the white stuff.  In 1955, the American Dairy Council took it over and has been running it with sales budgets since.  Last year, the Vegetarian Awareness Network countered Milk Month with what was then called No Dairy Month, with what appears to be no financial motive...
