Many families of autism find their way to Go Dairy Free in search of dietary help with the gluten-free / casein-free (GFCF) diet. As such, we like to keep abreast of news and reviews related to autism for viewers. This month, Foods Matter (a magazine for food allergies and intolerances) featured a three in one review of books specifically addressing autism and diet ...
If anyone should know about treating autism with diet it is Rosemary Kessick, author of two of three new books on the subject from Jessica Kingsley Publishers. The mother of a now adult son with autism, Rosemary is a former CEO of Allergy Induced Autism, one of the charities that championed the early use of the gluten and casein-free diet in autism ... |

Compared to the tales of Expo West, the Natural Marketplace held in Las Vegas in July was very modest. Yet, what it lacked in awe, it made up for in intimacy, the ability to learn more about the products / companies, and in some cases, meet the owners. Such was the case with Mother's Cupboard. Two cheerful and friendly moms were handing out full-sized samples of their new bars and were proud to give me the rundown of what they stand for ... dairy-free (specifically, gotta love that!), all natural, no preservatives, etc.
The word "bar" has become synonymous with such a wide-array of snack items, so I want to clarify what type of bar you will get from Mother's Cupboard. Perhaps you have heard of Fig Newtons? Think of this theme, but in a larger, longer, bar format. Got it? Okay, now that we are on the same page, I can move onto the next topic, taste ... |

In Go Dairy Free, I had the opportunity to discuss and elaborate on the various types of infant formula for milk allergic little ones, including the most effective type for severe multiple protein intolerances, amino acid-based formulas. Nutricia produces Neocate, a nutritionally complete, amino acid-based formula that is dairy-free, and also works well for multiple food protein intolerance.
But, in general, infant formulas are for, well, infants. So what happens when your child outrows their onesies, but they haven't outgrown their severe food allergies and gastrointestinal issues? Enter Neocate Junior. Neocate Junior is a nutritionally complete, amino acid-based medical food for children ages 1 to 10 with multiple food protein intolerance and severe impairment of the gastrointestinal tract ... |

Los Angeles, CA July 19, 2009 -- On Saturday, July 25, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. I’m proud to announce a new cooking class for Multiple Food Allergies at the New School of Cooking in Culver City. Kishari Sing, the Food Allergy Queen, is food blogger and former caterer who discovered six years ago that her lifelong health issues were due to a long list of multiple food allergies including wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, rice, tomatoes, lemons, oranges, lettuce, walnuts and garlic among many others. She started her blog, www.FoodAllergyQueen.blogspot.com because when she explained that she had multiple food allergies to people, inevitably the next question would be “So, what in the world DO you eat?” Based on her experiences in adapting existing recipes as well as creating new ones, Kishari will be teaching a class at the highly-regarded New School of Cooking in Culver City to share her tips and techniques on how to cook for multiple food allergies. It’s a hands-on class where students do the cooking themselves ... |

It wasn't long ago that I found myself wishing for good, jumbo dairy-free cookies ... you know, like those big Grandma's cookies found in convenience stores, only without all of the junk. My prayers were answered when Liz Lovely came onto the scene. At that point, I thought vegan cookies had reached their peak, could they really get any grander? Well they have, thanks to the aptly named company, Bountiful Vegan. Their new Good Intentions cookies are soft and huge. To be a bit more descriptive on the sizing, Sarah, one of our reviewers, so eloquently described them by saying, "These cookies are as big as your face ..." Of course, we aren't talking serious nutrition here. They may be vegan, but these cookies are pure indulgence. To get a taste for the four flavors, take a peak at Sarah's Review and Hannah's Review. Both have very different perspectives and provide different tidbits of information on these gigantic dessert cookies, but they certainly agree on one thing, these cookies are GOOD! |
