Rob Benes, Kids Cuisine - I’m a big proponent of healthy eating, particularly when the eating focuses on children. So, I want to pass along some news coming from the The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH). These two groups want parents to think about what they are packing into their children’s lunch bags when heading back to school. Going a step further, the CDC and PBH want school administrators to carefully consider what is planned for in-school lunches. |

Tomatoes have been enjoying a seasonal high, as evidenced by overflowing amounts of virtually every variety (from Roma to Heirloom) at local markets and numerous bloggers displaying photos of the red-ripe (and green) fruits of their gardens. Of course, we can always count on Jackie at The Vegan Diet to capture the essence and history of a single food in writing, plus we love the dairy-free recipes she always shares. Whether you harvested them yourself, or couldn't resist purchasing a cart-full, Jackie will make you feel more virtuous for consuming tomatoes, and give you numerous mediums (aka dairy-free, vegan, gluten-free, and raw recipes) to do so.... |

(Vegan, Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Soy-Free) - "...I was all set with my ingredients to make grilled ‘cheese’ sandwiches, for this week’s Family Dinner Night. I must admit, this was a pretty brave move on my part, serving vegan ‘cheese’ to my omnivore parents (and myself for that matter, since I was skeptical after that one bad experience I had a few years ago)....the meal for Family Dinner Night featured grilled-‘cheese’-and-red-onion sandwiches with a side of steamed broccoli, carrots, spinach, zucchini, and squash... Words simply cannot describe just how incredible Vegan Rella® is at melting!..." - Read this Review / View all Reviews |

From The Non-Dairy Queen - "So, this is a recipe that I have been making for years. I have not had them for quite some time due to the fact that I did not know that I could bake with Earth Balance in the tubs. Although, now I am not so sure I want to have that kind of information. Don't get me wrong...these cookies are good! They are so good that our friend, Jim, has renamed them from peanut butter oatmeal cookies to "Crack Cookies". They are so good that when I made them a couple of weeks ago for an after lunch treat, the plate was almost eaten! ... you should make them, but you have been warned!" ... As if avoiding anything labeled with “milk,” “cream,” or “cheese” somewhere in the title isn’t enough, the food manufacturing business has found hundreds of other ways to hide milk in our food supply. While I consider myself somewhat of a dairy-free guru, capable of spotting the dairy ingredients on a Kraft foods label in a single scan, I was recently busted by the moo juice within yet another unsuspecting form... |
