New Raw Food Online Super Store Launches and Shares a Hemp Seed Pesto Recipe
Tuesday, 11 May 2010

Raw Hemp Seed Pesto - VeganI discovered a simple recipe (below) for Hemp Seed (or Almond) Pesto in the Raw Power newsletter, and Thor (I still love that the founder of Raw Power Protein Superfood is named Thor - too cool) welcomed us to publish it here on Go Dairy Free. It seemed like the perfect sauce or condiment for spring.

Last year I was introduced to Raw Power Protein Superfood, but the company has quickly expanded beyond their own product line. They have recently introduced the Raw Power Super Store with over 500 new products. This new online store is stocked with the Raw Power Brand (of course), numerous other raw / organic food brands, Organic and Wildcrafted Superfoods, High-Quality Supplements, Books, DVDs, CDs, Organic Body Care, and Healthy Lifestyle Appliances (Blenders, Juicers, Dehydrators, Ceramic Knives, Kitchen Tools, etc.). Visit it at www.rawpower.com to see the whole array of offerings.

Okay, back to the recipe. It is from the raw recipe book, I Am Grateful: Recipes & Lifestyle of Cafe Gratitude by Terces Engelhart and Orchid.

30 Days to a Food Revolution: Strawberry Oat Mylk and Fruit ‘n Fiber Breakfast Shake
Monday, 10 May 2010

Dairy Free Strawberry Oat MilkDiane at The W.H.O.L.E. Gang created a wonderful event called 30 Days to a Food Revolution, and I was thrilled when she asked me to participate. The event has even caught the attention of the true Food Revolution founder, Jamie Oliver.

Dairy Free Strawberry Oat MilkDiane explains, "Inspired by Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution to make a difference I have asked 30 different bloggers to join me in sharing how to shift from processed foods or unhealthy foods to the foods our bodies need and love. Each food blogger will guest post on this site sharing their point of view and a recipe that is good for our bodies."

For my recipe(s), I chose to really focus on dairy-free living and went with a from-scratch Dairy-Free Strawberry Oat Milk Recipe (adapted from Go Dairy Free) with an additional Lean Fruit 'n Fiber Breakfast Shake. To view the recipes and see my everyday foodie tip, see the full post on  The W.H.O.L.E. Gang. And don't forget to comment on the post! Every comment throughout the 30 Day Food Revolution is an entry to win a fabulous prize.

Should you wish to share a comment or question with me directly, the recipes are also up on One Frugal Foodie.

Baking Delicious, Chocolate Chunk, Allergen-Free Cookies with Mom
Sunday, 09 May 2010

Allergen-Free Baker's HandbookSweet Sundays: Like most food bloggers and cookbook authors, my affection for the kitchen started at a very young age. When strawberry season kicked up I would clean and de-stem hundreds of berries for the pints of jam my mom would prepare and freeze. When the holidays rolled around, I would help pour the pumpkin bread batter from my mom's classic recipe into gift tins and use up extra pie crust dough by making the mini cinnamon rolls that she taught me to prepare.

These events were always something I looked forward to, but even when there was no special season or holiday on tap, my mom would randomly suggest we bake chocolate chip cookies together. And thus, my cookie addiction was born.

Unfortunately for many with food allergies and intolerances, cookies can seem like an unattainable pleasure. But thanks to the Allergen-Free Baker's Handbook by Cybele Pascal (a dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and nut-free cookbook delight!), a "no child [or mom] left behind" policy has just been carried over to Chocolate Chunk Cookies. And just to make sure both mom and child have no doubts about churning out some successful cookies, Cybele has shared with us the full recipe (below) and a recipe demo video demonstrating the preparation.

Happy Mother's Day and Happy Baking! ...

Sweet Simplicity: Whole Wheat Vegan Pancakes or Waffles for Mother's Day
Friday, 07 May 2010

Fluffy Whole Wheat Vegan PancakesFrugal Foodie Friday: So you didn't order that dairy-free box of chocolates in time, and aren't willing to pay an arm and a leg for the inflated flower prices. But, what about a more thoughtful and affordable gesture like breakfast in bed? Any mom or loved one will be delighted by a stack of these fluffy yet wholesome and guilt-free pancakes ... and you will be thrilled with how easy AND cheap they are to make!

I frequently keep our toppings quite hearty. When I make waffles, I often top them with homemade nut butter, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and a light drizzle of honey. But for these, I decided a little maple was in order. I made two separate toppings: mine was outright hearty, while my husband’s had some added nutrition snuck in (no complaints, his plate was licked clean with a very big thank you). I have included our toppings after the Whole Wheat Vegan Pancake Recipe on my personal recipe blog, One Frugal Foodie.
