Featured Product Review: Divvies Cupcakes
Thursday, 18 October 2007

Divvies Cupcakes(Vegan, Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Nut-Free) - Just in time for classroom and Halloween parties, our product reviewing, food allergen mom, Barb, checked out the latest in "safe" cupcakes.  Both of Barb’s children have multiple food allergies, including milk, eggs, and nuts.  Each year she seeks out delicious and "safe" treats to make their birthdays memorable.  Unfortunately, the allergy-friendly bakery she typically travels to has recently closed their retail location… this is where Divvies’ new dairy-, egg-, peanut-, and tree nut-free cupcakes (complete with frosting and decorations) saved the day Read Barb's Review / Win Divvies Cupcakes

Food Allergy Protein Link Discovered
Wednesday, 17 October 2007

Over the past few years, many claims have emerged about the hypoallergenic nature of various mammal milks.  While this may sound like a ludicrous statement, new research shows that this may in fact be true.  Scientist have found that the allergic nature of certain animal food proteins may lie in how related they are to a human protein...

Eco-Friendly Clothes Not Always Allergy-Friendly
Tuesday, 16 October 2007

Karen Blue, Avoiding Milk Protein - Making clothes out of milk fiber for those avoiding allergic reactions to milk raises fears.  Supporters claim milk fabric is a renewable resource that biodegrades and offers a nice light weight fabric.  Entering the marketplace more eco friendly fabrics made from soy and corn, also causing concerns for the allergic...

Banana Pumpkin Spice Muffins

By Hannah Kaminsky of Bittersweet Blog and My Sweet Vegan - Starting with a basic banana muffin recipe from VegWeb, it wasn’t long before the mad baker in me was tinkering around again, not content to leave well enough alone even with the barest minimum of ingredients on hand. Luckily, when I saw that the batter was mixing up into a somewhat dry concrete-like substance, I happened to have a jar of pumpkin butter on hand, and a delicious new recipe was born, just like that... Great Recipe "Newsletter"

 Cinnamon Apple French Toast

Vegetarian Times, the magazine, has a very cool group of "newsletters" that you can sign up for.  I put newsletters in quotes as they aren't the traditional newsletters with news bites and ideas.  They are actually more like alerts.  When I signed up, I checked "dairy-free" and "vegan."  Now I get a nice little email about twice a week (one dairy-free, one vegan) with a recipe of the week (with photo!).  Very nice I must say!  The photo at right is of a Vegan Recipe of the Week I recently received, Cinnamon Apple French Toast.  You can pick your newsletter / recipe options (low fat, vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free) at the Vegetarian Times newsletter sign-up page.  Enjoy!

The Best Halloween Candy Ever
Saturday, 13 October 2007

Yummy EarthWhat could possibly make one brand of candy the absolute best?  Let me count the ways ... certified organic, food allergy-friendly (made in a peanut-, tree nut-free facility), vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free (GFCF), soy-free, egg-free, certified kosher parve, 100% natural colors, no chemical additives, real fruit extracts ... oh yeah, and did I mention that they are positively Yummy!  I was elated to discover these lollypops and candies from Yummy Earth that seem to be well suited to just about every special diet need that a little one may have, from food allergies to autism  They also come in fun flavors like Mango Tango and Wet-Face Watermelon.  As pure as candy can get, both moms and trick-or-treaters should be pleased with this highly improved version of a classic.  Also, Yummy Earth lollipops and candies come in large packages, perfectly priced (on sale mind you) for Halloween parties and filling Halloween bags.
