We have a few news-worthy headlines that didn't quite warrant full articles, but definitely deserve mention: Divvies gets in the holiday spirit with seasonal candies and chocolates. On the Divvies' website you can order their Christmas Jelly Beans, Chocolate Turkeys, Chocolate Trees, Chocolate Snowmen, Chanukah Jelly Beans, and Chanukah Chocolates. All sweets are dairy-free, egg-free, and nut-free. I have even seen some of the Divvies' products in natural food stores, so keep an eye out in your local area. The official Thanksgiving holiday may have passed, but grocery stores (and perhaps your refrigerator and freezer) are still brimming with cranberries, and cravings for holiday fare, such as that sweet cornbread, linger on. Merging those two flavors into a Sunday brunch treat, Hannah (author of My Sweet Vegan and blogger at Bittersweet) has created a vegan Cornmeal and Cranberry Pancakes recipe that is sure to please.
These pancakes are naturally dairy-free and egg-free. Because the recipe relies more heavily on the flavor of cornmeal than flour, adventurous gluten-free cooks may want to trial subsituting their favorite GF flour blend. Do you ever find yourself hungry for something a little sweet, but not wanting to go the full-blown dessert route or ruin dinner? Enter the health-ified Chocolate Chip Crispy Treats Recipe. This version classifies as a relatively nutritious, hybrid snack-treat that is not too sweet, yet slightly indulgent.
So what makes these different from your ordinary Snap, Crackle, and Pop version? Let's see ... no refined sugars, in fact pretty low in sugar overall; two whole grain cereals for the price of one; coconut oil instead of butter or margarine; a little flax seed and nut butter for good measure; and, well, chocolate is a health food now, right? Plus, it is natural dairy-free (casein-free) and can be made vegan and gluten-free in a pinch. See the full post on One Frugal Foodie for the recipe. |

They have already been relieved of the stress of celebrated Thanksgiving and are even well past the leftovers. But here in the U.S., the big event is lurking around the corner, and perhaps, just perhaps, some of those menus are not completely set. For those of you who need some last minute inspiration, or for anyone mulling over menus for other upcoming holiday meals, I have a few links that will surely help out:
The Big List of Dairy-Free Thanksgiving Recipes - We compiled this last year, but recipes are never outdated. If you are planning ahead for the next event, see out Holiday Dinners Recipe List. And just in case you missed it, here is our Huge Holiday Pie Post. Whole Foods Dairy-Free Holiday Recipes - It is about time this mega-natural food company gets on the dairy-free bandwagon. |
