Cookbook Giveaway #4: Go Dairy Free and Cinn-ful Sweet Potato Cookies
Thursday, 19 November 2009

Sweet Potato Cinnamon Cookies - Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Soy-FreeSweet Potato Cinnamon Cookies - Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Soy-FreeAs I was scheduling this week of favorite cookbook giveaways, it occurred to me that we hadn't even done a giveaway of Go Dairy Free: The Guide and Cookbook as of yet. Though I am a bit biased, I reference it often, as if it is ... well, my own personal resource guide and recipe collection ... which I suppose it is.

So here is your chance to win a copy of Go Dairy Free for yourself or a loved one, and just in time for the holidays! We are giving away one copy of the book and one copy of the ebook, which is available to viewers internationally. So wherever you are, head over to One Frugal Foodie to enter to win! And while you are there, enjoy my Sweet Potato Cookie Recipe.

Cookbook Giveaway #3: Sweet Freedom and Orange-Oat Muffins
Wednesday, 18 November 2009

Sweet Freedom GiveawaySweet Freedom GiveawayHere we are at day 3 of our first cookbook giveaway week, and the prizes just keep getting sweeter, literally! Today's pick is from one of my favorite recipe creators, Ricki Heller. She has been the voice behind Diet, Dessert, and Dogs for a few years now, but she added author to her title with her new cookbook release, Sweet Freedom.

I simply love the whole-grain treats in this cookbook. So far I have barely made it past the breakfast section, enjoying two of the Spelt Pancake recipes, some beautiful Orange-Oat Muffins (see the recipe for a surprise), and a slight alteration of the Banana-Oat Bars to enjoy some holiday-friendly Sweet Potato and Cranberry Oat Bars. I have yet to reach the pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies (oh, how I love cookies), candies, puddings, and no bake treats ... all of which are vegan (egg-free and dairy-free), wheat-free (there are several gluten-free options too), and most of which are easy to adapt to soy-free diets too. But enough chatting. Head over to the Sweet Freedom Giveaway on One Frugal Foodie for my full review, for a sample recipe, and to enter to win!

Cookbook Giveaway #2: The Garden of Eating and Honey-Mustard Chicken with Ginger
Tuesday, 17 November 2009

The Garden of Eating GiveawayThe Garden of Eating GiveawayMoving onto the second day of our week long cookbook giveaway we have another one of my new favorites, The Garden of Eating. This book really is much more than a cookbook, as you will discover just by thumbing through all 581 pages.

It would be easy for me to simply say, this is a great book for dairy-free and gluten-free dieters, but that would cut out too many other people whom this book and cookbook could help. If health and nutrition is of importance to you and your family, then The Garden of Eating should be on your wish list. The author, Chef Rachel Albert-Matesz (aka The Healthy Cooking Coach), calls her approach "a produce-dominated diet." I like to call it a Paleo-friendly diet or a whole foods diet to the extreme.

But have no fear, the recipes are not only healthy, they are also delicious ... as you can see from the sample recipe for Honey-Mustard Chicken with Ginger. Honestly, this is one book that will remain in my collection until it is so tattered with dog-eared pages and splattered with ingredients, that I have to get a new copy. Speaking of new copies, who would like to win one?

A Comparison of Organic Coconut Oil Brands and Recommended Recipes
Monday, 16 November 2009

Artisana Raw Organic Coconut Oil - partially meltedI love coconut oil. The taste, the properties … it is magical for a dairy-free diet. High in saturated fat (is it really that evil?) this oil solidifies at cooler room temperatures, yet is easy to liquefy. This wonderful quality in addition to its rich taste, has allowed me to use coconut oil to make everything from buttery spreads to chocolate fudge with delicious results.

Due to its saturated fat load, coconut oil was declared a villain decades ago, and replaced by hydrogenated oils across our great land. Well, we all know how well that went. So now coconut oil is back in the good books and even touted by many as a health food. Able to strengthen immunity, promote weight loss, ease digestion, and leap tall buildings in a single bound. But seriously, one of our favorite blogging nutritionists, Meghan Telpner, sings the praises of coconut oil nicely. For information on coconut oil's health benefits, enjoy her post in its entirety. For a review of some delicious brands (Artisana, Tropical Traditions, and Nutiva), suggestions for use, and recommended recipes, read on ...
