Child Migraines PDF Print E-mail

Dana ~ First a BIG thank you!! Your website is a Godsend!  About 1-1/2 years ago my 6 year old began having almost daily migraine headaches.  We got glasses, an MRI, an EEG, bloodwork gallore, a 504 plan at school (disability), I googled homeschooling and planned to quit my job as I was thinking the stress of school could be causing these, I toured a $10,000.00/year Montessori school, kept an activity and food log (but didn't see the link). Finally he was admitted to a hospital with a migraine that caused his arm to go numb and weak. I thought he was having a stroke. While in the hospital I was informed of some old bloodwork (4 yrs. old to be exact) that had been missed that indicated he "might" have food allergies ...

Needless to say, we went home from the hospital and I looked up the most common allergens - dairy was tops.  I took him off dairy that day; my husband thought I was nuts (he grew up on a dairy farm) :-)  24 hours later my child was headache free and has been relatively so for 2 months. I have the occasional mess-up (who knew McDonalds put whey in their sausage! or that Amy's Soy cheese pizza had casein!) and then the symptoms will return - usually within 3 hours. We are still learning and praise God his allergy isn't life threatening, but I just wanted to put this out there for those other parents of kids with migraine - TRY AN ELIMINATION DIET AND START WITH DAIRY!

Thank you Alisa - I view your website several times a week so keep up the good work and  lets keep being vocal about the need for restaurants to reveal the allergens in our foods as this problem is not going away!
