Contact us with your story... Whether two sentences or an entire novel, we would love to hear it!  People follow special diets for many different reasons.  It is comforting to share and read the stories of others who may be in the same boat.  When you email, let us know if you would like your story posted with credits or anonymously.

The Promise
By Gina Clowes, AllergyMoms - One of the challenges faced by parents raising food-allergic children is that the condition is hidden. One cannot look at an allergic child and see that they might be fatally harmed by a healthy food such as milk, egg or peanut. Food is everywhere, and it can feel like a minefield to parents trying to protect their young children. Allergy moms are accustomed to folks dismissing them as anxious or overprotective.

Combatting Kidney Stone
By Victoria - I would just like to say thank you. I have just discovered your website and it is fantastic. Four years ago I was diagnosed with kidney stones due to a build up of calcium. Since then, I have noticed that I get kidney pains and tummy cramps if I eat any dairy (barr a little milk in my tea).  Due to this, I have decided to go as dairy free as possible and for the past few days have been feeling great (my tummy is completely not bloated anymore, i can wear my clothes again)!

Dairy-Free = Pain-Free (for me)
By Kathleen Mueller - Well, folks, I have been dairy-free for one week. I have not had to take even one Motrin. (After three years of eating the stuff like candy!) Bloating is pretty much gone, and I've lost three pounds. I no longer look four months pregnant, but I've still got a ways to go!  Before I go any further: may I remind you I am not a doctor, not a medical professional. I'm just a person who has been suffering in excruciating, widespread muscle pain, mental incapacitation and bone-crushing fatigue for three years, with no diagnosis and hardly anyone believing my symptoms.

My Baby Trinity
By Amanda E. - I had my second baby when I was 24.  She was breast fed for three months, but she cried and cried ... her tummy was like a rock. I knew something was wrong. So we called the doctor and they said it was colic. There was no way, she spitup half her food and cried after feedings only. So we went to a new doctor who said to put her on an easy to digest formula. I did, but nothing resolved, she still had a bad tummy.

Ballooning Tummy Troubles
By Louise - For many years, 20 or so, my stomach would balloon out and my pants would be so tight or I'd walk around with the zipper undone, feeling very sorry for myself.  Finally a friend said to try leaving out the dairy and I did just that.  My swollen belly diappeared right away and it's been such a relief for me and I feel so much lighter and my indigestion is a thing of the past.  I have to be very careful, even the tiniest bit will make me bloat right away.  It really is so worth it all though.

Thankfully my child is now dairy free

By Karen Blue - Not only is my eldest child able to play with out, painful stomach cramps.  She doesn’t have the rashes that could sometimes bleed on her body or the tearful trips to the washroom she had while eating dairy.  She is growing now, I am thankful to have a happy child that is now free of dairy.  Her IBS is under control.

Warning: Do Not Feed This Family
By Julie Berry, MetroWest Daily News - Whenever I go through a fast-food drive up window, my six-year old orders a cheeseburger, no pickles. If I say he can only get a snack, he asks for fries, no pickles. Or a milkshake, no pickles.  The other day he asked me for a ham sandwich with mayonnaise. No cheese, he said, and no tuna. Do you make ham and tuna sandwiches? Neither do I.

On Veganism and Acne
By Mary Martin - In case you need another reason to stop eating dairy products, permit me a personal story. I stopped eating eggs and milk and butter (alone, not as an ingredient in something) a while ago, however I wasn't a vegan, as I'd still have a dessert that was no doubt made with dairy products; I ate Greens Plus bars, which are made with whey; and I'd crave pizza once or twice a month.
