Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet Cheese Alternative (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free) PDF Print E-mail

By Barb Nicoletti - Keep in mind, that I do not have any dietary restrictions, but it so important for me to find good quality foods for my children to eat.  I spend a lot of time researching products that they may enjoy.  While I am a lover of pizza and can never seem to get enough, my children have quickly fallen in love with the smell, craving a bite of their own.  Yet, one of the challenges that I faced was finding a cheese that actually melted and tasted really good.

In researching cheese alternatives for them, one of the main factors I looked for was a cheese that tasted good to me.  Yes, I actually taste everything I feed the children first.  If it doesn't taste good to me, I normally won't even bother trying to get it past those past those picky toddler taste buds.  Well, after several hours on the Internet, I came across a cheese I wanted to try.  At the time it was available only at Whole Foods (which was not in my area), so I had to drive 36 miles to the nearest store.  Desperate to share some good pizza with them, I packed the kids in the car and off for another road trip we went.

Vegan GourmetThere in Whole Foods, was an entire section geared toward vegan eating (who would of thought). This was my first trip to Whole Foods, it was an experience in itself.  There lying in the refrigerated chest, I found several varieties of “Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet Cheese.” I was so excited that my trip had not been wasted.  I purchased the Cheddar Cheese and Mozzarella flavors, and of course a whole bunch of other items, after all I had made the trip!

I came home, and made the children Bagel Pizza’s for lunch.  To my surprise the cheese was soft, easy to shred and it ACTUALLY MELTED, just like the package stated.  Then came the real test, I took a bite of the pizza, and it tasted really really good!  Honestly, this cheese alternative possessed all of the wonderful flavors and textures of regular cheese once melted.  It was great!

Since the pizza was a great success, I decided to try the Cheddar Cheese flavor in my baked macaroni and cheese; it turned out fantastic.  This cheese alternative is dairy free, egg free, nut free, peanut free, gluten free and vegan.  Great news for anyone looking for a cheese alternative that really melts.   The best part is you can freeze it, to prevent spoilage.

I highly recommend browsing their website www.followyourheart.com.  The cheese comes in several flavors, including Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Mozzarella and Nacho.

Follow Your Heart Cheese Alternative can be found at Whole Foods, Wild Oats and some local Health Foods Stores.  If you are having trouble locating a package, you can always speak to your grocer, as they may be able to order it.

Is this product manufactured in a dedicated nut-free facility? Is there potential of cross contamination?

Barb's kids both have multiple food allergies, including milk, eggs, and nuts. While I can only assume that these are "safe" since her children have had no reactions, it is always important to contact the manufacturer to cofirm. Here is the link to all of their contact information - http://www.followyourheart.com/contact.php. They are a smaller type company and always willing to help.
