Earth Balance Natural Buttery Sticks (Vegan, Gluten-Free) **Top Pick** PDF Print E-mail

~~ 5 Star Selection from Go Dairy Free ~~

This product was chosen by our staff as a top pick for quality and taste.

As an avid (dairy free) baker, I have been a loyalist to Earth Balance Shortening for years.  Last week, I was preparing to trial it as a frosting base for a ‘fresh from the oven’ chocolate cake, when I discovered I was completely out.  As luck would have it, my store had run dry of the shortening as well.  However, they had a new product on the shelves, Earth Balance Buttery Sticks.  At first I was very hesitant.  A dairy free, non-hydrogenated, all natural, butter?  This seemed just a little too good to be true.  But, what choice did I have, a cake without frosting?  I think not.
Just a half hour on the counter and the sticks softened beautifully.  In fact, I was able to whip them into frosting by hand.  The taste?  Just one word, WOW!  Earth Balance delivered on the buttery name.  The frosting was truly decadent and had the wonderful flavor of an all-natural butter base.  Though it doesn’t perform in baking as a shortening would, it works beautifully in cookies, cakes, and any other recipes that could benefit from a boost of butter.

  • Pros: Vegan; Non-hydrogenated; All-Natural; Gluten free; No MSG; OU Kosher Parve; Great for baking and as a butter replacement; Reasonably priced; Cholesterol free; Good source of vitamin E
  • Cons: Still thinking…

Recommended For:

  • An All-Around Dairy Free / Vegan / Non-Hydrogenated Butter Replacement
  • Baking
  • Spreading
  • Whipping

Where to Buy:

  • In Stores: Broad Distribution in the U.S. & Canada
