Chebe Pizza Crust Mix (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

“Slightly Unusual. Unusually Good.” is the motto at Chebe, and I must say, they are right on the mark.  Chebe bread mixes are free of gluten, wheat, casein*, lactose*, yeast, soy, corn, potato and MSG.  It would be impossible to expect “typical” results, though what you get is relatively addictive and tasty.

Like the other Chebe varieties, the pizza crust mix is made with a base of tapioca flour and starch.  To make it special, they have added sea salt and a blend of pizza-worthy herbs (basil, garlic, onion, oregano, thyme).

Preparation is amazingly simple.  Just add eggs, milk alternative, and two Tablespoons of oil.  Mix together, briefly knead until smooth, flatten into your desired shape, and bake.  The whole process takes just 10 minutes to prepare and about 30 minutes to bake.  No rising times required.

The crust has a great flavor that we all enjoyed.  The texture is crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, with a slight emphasis on chewy.  Since Chebe mixes do not rise significantly, pizza crust is the perfect application.  Our crust was not too thin, but not too puffy.

*All but the Original Bread Mix are dairy-free

  • Pros:  Vegan; Free of all grains (wheat/gluten), soy, potato, yeast, and MSG; Incredibly easy to prepare; Unique taste and texture
  • Cons:  A touch high in sodium; May be a bit chewy for some tastes

Recommended for:

  • Dairy-Free Pizzas and Calzones
  • Flatbread Snacking
  • Focaccia

Where to Buy:

  • Online – You can purchase all of the mixes directly from the Chebe website.
  • In Store – Chebe mixes are sold at natural food stores throughout the U.S., see their website for a store locator.
