Cherrybrook Kitchen Fudge Brownie Mix (Vegan) PDF Print E-mail

I pulled out this brownie mix when my husband began clambering for a dessert.  Chocolate always soothes his savage beast, and after the great success we had with the Cherrybrook Kitchen cookies, I knew I couldn’t go wrong.  They were very easy to make, as a dessert mix should be, just add margarine, oil, and water.  Luckily I followed the instructions exactly.  The heat from the melted margarine would have melted the already mixed in chocolate chips had I not added cold water first.    The only place where we hit a snag was in the pan size.  Lacking a 9x9 inch pan, I had to go down in size.  For this reason, they took a few extra minutes to cook, and we had to prepare them a bit on the “cakey” side.  Fortunately, the true brownie in these emerged upon cooling, with a slightly denser texture and a more intense dark chocolate taste.  I was surprised that the chocolate chips did not present themselves, but rather melted into the brownies, creating occasional pockets of semi-sweet chocolate flavor.  I would love to trial these brownies again in a larger pan cooked for a shorter amount of time, to experience their fudgey side.  Oh and as for my husband, to his satisfaction these brownies had just enough “sweet” and chocolate.
Fun and unique, cartoon-style packaging makes the Cherrybrook mixes (including the brownies) an excellent choice for kids.  Their well thought out shipping design also offers a gift quality presentation.  In fact, my nieces may see a Cherrybrook Kitchen box arrive in the mail this coming holiday season.

  • Pros:  Vegan; Convenient; Good fudge-like, dark chocolate flavor; Fun packaging
  • Cons:  Periodic sugar chunks were found in the baked product, so a hand mixer may be required
