Sylvan Border Farm All-Purpose Flour (Vegan, Gluten-Free) PDF Print E-mail

I was very pleased with the Sylvan Border Farm mixes (their lemon cake won me over even though I am not a cake nor a lemon dessert fan), so I was eager to trial their flour blend to see if I could create such marvelous gluten-free, casein free desserts on my own.

Luckily, for those of us who are gluten-free baking rookies, Sylvan Border Farm doesn’t leave you hanging.  They include a nice little pamphlet filled with recipes to get you started.  I chose the peanut butter cookie recipe for my first trial.

I followed the recipe, using maple syrup, adding 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and flattening the cookie dough with some sugar for a nice topping.  They came out with light wafer crispness around the edges and a generously soft peanut butter middle.

As for the taste, well … just ask my husband.  He stole one from the cooling rack before I could even get a picture.  He then returned for two more within the next ten minutes, and proceeded to complain about the small batches I bake … joking that he would get me an easy bake oven so I could cook one at a time. Apparently his sweet cravings are making him bitter over my “test batches” (I only bake 6 on the first run just in case something needs to be adjusted).

Sylvan Border FarmThe cookies were egg and oil free, not too sweet, not too hearty, and perfect in texture.  I don’t think anyone would guess their gluten-free nature.  Of course, we weren’t able to verify this, as my husband and I gobbled up every last cookie. A definite winner.

As for the flour, it seemed to work perfectly, not missing a glutinous beat.  I loved the resealable 2lb package, the organic flours, and the insert of easy recipes.

INGREDIENTS: Potato Starch, White Rice Flour, Brown Rice Flour*, Amaranth Flour, Quinoa Flour*, White Cornmeal*, Garbanzo Bean Flour*, Soy Flour*.  *Organically Grown.

Where to Purchase: Sylvan Border Farm gluten-free mixes are available in natural food stores, but can still be a bit difficult to locate.  Luckily, you can easily purchase them online
