Amazing Meal Powder - Vanilla Chai (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

I consistently get asked about dairy-free meal replacers, so I jumped for joy when I found Amazing Meal. It is not only dairy-free, it is also soy-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, raw, organic, and vegan! It comes in four flavors, Original, Pomegranate Mango Infusion, Chocolate Infusion, and the one that I had to have, Vanilla Chai.

I have been a fan of Amazing Grass SuperFood powders for a few years, so while I was eager to try this mix, I also had fairly high expectations in place. Fortunately, the product delivered, and is now my top Amazing Grass pick.

As an initial test, I tasted just a touch of the powder straight. They do use a little stevia to sweeten, and it was a little bit too pronounced for me (I’m definitely a stevia super-taster), so I knew simply mixing it with water or milk alternative (per the directions) wouldn’t fly. Instead it became the star component of a very basic breakfast shake … a good-size portion of frozen banana chunks (about 1 to 1-1/2 large bananas), 1 scoop of Amazing Meal (they are rather large scoops), and some unsweetened hemp milk to the consistency I was looking for … which was thick and spoonable.

The shake was perfect. The flavors melded beautifully, and the sweetness was a delightful morning treat without being over the top; no additional sweetener required. With the banana, this did qualify as a meal for me, and kept me going for a solid three hours without the least bit of hunger.

With just milk alternative, the Amazing Meal would only be about 150 to 200 calories ... definitely not enough to fuel me for more than an hour. Nonetheless, if the stevia taste works for you, then I could see just the Amazing Meal / liquid blend working as a mid-afternoon pick-me-up at work or for recovery after a workout.

As a meal replacement, the nutritionals are pretty stellar I think. Each scoop offers 10 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, only a wee bit of fat, and less than 1 gram of sugar. It also packs in a healthy dose of Vitamin A (all beta-carotene), Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and Vitamin B12.

As for the whole food ingredients, the Vanilla Chai is broken down as follows:

  • Protein Blend - 15,000 mg
Organic Rice Protein, Organic Manitoba Harvest Pro 70 Hemp Protein
  • Amazing Grass Greens Blend - 3,100 mg
Organic Wheat Grass, Organic Kale, Organic Barley Grass, Organic Alfalfa
  • Antioxidant Fruit & Vegetable Blend - 2,800 mg
Organic Açaí Berry, Organic Carrot, Organic Blueberry, Organic Goji Berry, Organic Rose Hips, Organic Maca Root, Organic Banana
  • Organic Flax Seed Powder - 500 mg
  • Digestive Enzyme and Active Culture Probiotic Blend - 20 mg
    L. Acidophilus, Alpha and Beta Amylase, Protease, Lipase, Lactase and Cellulase
  • Organic Stevia Leaf Extract - 30 mg
  • Other Ingredients
Organic Cane Juice, Organic Guar Gum, Natural Flavors and Organic Madagascar Vanilla

I frequently start my day or re-fuel mid-morning with a basic banana smoothie, and this was the perfect component to round it out. I plan to enjoy it for many more breakfasts, perhaps branching out into the other flavors … just perhaps.
