If anyone tries to tell you that dairy free diets lack too many of the nutrients found in milk, just show them the label on your Whole Soy & Co. Organic Smoothie: Calcium - 40%; Vitamin A - 15%; Vitamin D2 40%; Vitamin B12 60%; Vitamin C 10%; Iron 10%; Riboflavin 40%; Phosphorus 15%. You can also educate them on the many active probiotics found in the Whole soy smoothies, and how good these are for digestive health. That ought to keep them quiet. Though they may try to steal your smoothie. Whole Soy & Co’s Organic Smoothies provide the great taste and nutritional benefits of a drinkable yogurt. Yet they are vegan certified, kosher certified, and an excellent alternative for those who do not consume dairy, or who wish to diversify their diet. I must admit, I was a bit nervous to trial this product. The last dairy-based yogurt smoothie I had several years ago was less than pleasant. Luckily, these were actually quite tasty. They come in four all natural flavors (yes, with real fruit). We attempted to trial each delicious flavor (see below). Our soy super-taster did note a slight bean flavor, but said that the added fruit and cane juice seemed to offset it nicely. We whole-heartedly agreed, the consistency was smooth and creamy while the flavor was the perfect combination of sweet and fruity. Though the sugars are high, 32g, it boasts 9g or protein, 3g of fiber, 4.5g of fat (enough for the little ones, but not too much to break the diet), and a respectable 230 calories. Overall this product seems to be a true nutritional powerhouse. Flavors We Trialed (or wanted to trial): - Raspberry - It may have a touch of the soybean flavor, but I found the pleasant, natural sweetness (from organic evaporated cane juice and real organic raspberries) to be a real treat that dominated the flavor. There is no bitterness, not a bit, as one might expect with a raspberry flavor.
- Apricot Mango – I wouldn’t have believed this sweet treat was all natural if it didn’t taste so much like the real fruit. I think I would have identified both the apricot and mango flavors even if I hadn’t read the label.
- Peach – Since it was the height of berry season when we trialed this flavor, we decided to get a little crazy and add some raspberries and a few ice cubes along with the peach smoothie in a blender. Of course, I had a sip of it straight first, it had a pleasant sweet peach flavor that wasn’t overwhelming. But, when blended with just a handful of raspberries, wow! Talk about a cost effective, dairy free solution to the $5 Jamba Juice!
- Strawberry – I held off on completing this review until we managed to locate this flavor, but every store that carried it was always out of stock! I can only assume that this is the best flavor due to popular demand, and hopefully will get to trial it one of these days…
