Gluten-Free Friends: An Activity Book for Kids PDF Print E-mail

I recieved this book for review, but alas, I had not a child in site (gluten-free or not) to share it with!  But, I will do my best to give a brief overview.

The activity book is excellent for younger children, those who are interested in coloring, simple puzzles and easy mind games.  It states ages 4-11, which is fairly accurate, though I think it may have trouble keeping hte attention of my two 11 year old nieces.

But, what sets this one apart from your ordinary activity book is the gluten-free lessons.  Pictures and words are used to help kids really understand what foods they should and shouldn't eat, and why.  This being said, I wouldn't recommend the book for a gluten-free / casein-free diet (GFCF).  Kids with Celiac Disease for which gluten is the nemisis, but dairy may not be a problem, at least not permanently, is the target group.  But, because a few of the pages boast dairy products as "safe" foods, I think this may cause some confusion for kids who must also live casein-free.  Of course, those pages could be easily removed.

Overall, I think this activity book is a brilliant idea that was well thought out and wonderfully executed.  I am certain that it will delight many moms and their children, who have Celiac disease.

Where to Purchase: This book along with Carol Fenster's gluten-free collection of cookbooks is available via The Savory Palate.
