Thrive Fitness by Brendan Brazier I received a request from the publisher to review this book, and since I am a big fan of Brendan Brazier, I gladly agreed. Unfortunately, though I am into fitness, I don't think this book was written for readers such as myself. When I read Thrive Fitness, I had not yet read Thrive (his first book), which is more based upon nutrition (I am reading it now). To me, Thrive Fitness felt more like a motivational book for athletes in training. Though I am big on active pursuits and general fitness, I am several years past athletic training. There are definitely some bits in the book that I learned from, some motivational stories that I did find inspiring, and some tips that I plan to incorporate in my lifestyle. But overall, this isn't a book a will be referencing and the exercises included within aren't ones that fit well with my own goals and fitness style. Brendan's fitness goals are much more "intense" than my simple desires to hike, ski, and generally enjoy (rather than compete in) an active lifestyle every day. If you are an amateur or professional athlete, or simply aspiring to run your first marathon or compete in and improve in the triathalon circuit, then I think this book is a good read. Particularly if you are already a vegan or simply curious about the vegan diet and athletic performance. Yes, Brendan is a professional, vegan athlete, and a successful one at that! If you are an active, fit, or otherwise healthy person looking for more whole food, energy-boosting, and superfood tips and recipes to incorporate into your lifestyle, you will find some in this book, but you will gleen much more from Brendan's first book, which is simply named Thrive (note that the two books look very, very similar - I frequently pick up the wrong one). I actually found Thrive was filled with enough fitness and motivational information (in addition to the food and recipes) to keep me occupied without having to move onto Thrive Fitness. This is a third party review by Alisa Fleming, author of Go Dairy Free: The Guide & Cookbook. Thrive Fitness is available from Amazon. Quote this article on your site | Print
