Lifestream Waffles – Pomegran Plus (Organic, Vegan) PDF Print E-mail

Nature’s Path is making bold moves to compete with the fluffy frozen waffle of yesteryear.  This hearty frozen waffle is made with 100% whole grains and flours.  To the naked eye, it looks almost identical to popular brands, just slightly darker in color.  This may make a quick swap at breakfast unnoticeable to children and husbands.  As well, the whole-wheat difference does not overpower the taste.  Without a topping, the Pomegran Plus waffles have a touch of sweet pomegranate flavor that melds into a light oat bran aftertaste.  When masked with pure maple syrup, they provide a traditional frozen waffle-on-the-go delicacy.  Although I trialed them with syrup, I preferred the waffles topped with an all-natural nut butter (I used Peanut Better’s Creamy Almond / Peanut blend on one and Peanut Praline on the other).  The pure maple syrup covered my morning sugar cravings, however it masked the lightly sweet pomegranate flavor, which the peanut butter helped to enhance.  As well, I found the waffles a bit crumbly when doused with syrup.   Sans syrup, they are also fairly low in sugar, at only 6 grams for two.  Moderate amounts of fat, protein, and fiber (each at 5g) make this a respectable breakfast choice.

  • Pros:  Made with organic whole grains; No highly refined flours or sugars; Low in overall sugar; Convenient; Low in calories (190 for 2)
  • Cons:  Not fortified with calcium or other vitamins/minerals like many frozen waffles; Texture is a touch crumbly

Recommended For:

  • Kids
  • Busy Adults
  • Quick Breakfast Treat
  • Hurried Mornings

Where to Buy:

  • In Stores – Natural Food Stores and Mainstream Grocers throughout the U.S. and Canada
