By Barb Nicoletti ~ Now is the time of year when the UPS delivery man and the USPS visit my home often. So when I saw a box waiting for me the other day, I was not surprised. However when I read the label and it was from Sweet Alexis, I could not wait to open it. I always enjoy receiving packages (that must be the kid in me) and a package that you can eat is even better. Sweet Alexis is a new company food allergy company specializing in creating mini loves and cookies for the food allergic. The facility is a dedicated facility that is free of dairy, egg, peanuts and tree nuts, with a gluten free line coming in the near future.
The box contained the cutest little mini loves and mini packages of cookies freshly baked. I was surprised to see how fresh and moist these loaves actually were especially since they were shipped a few days prior to my receiving them. Mini pumpkin bread with icing drizzled over the top (ooh my favorite this time of year), mini chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, mini banana bread (another favorite of mine), oatmeal cookies and a package of chocolate chip cookies; which my son could not wait to dig into. Packed with flavor these mini loaves were a huge hit. When I opened the cake, the aroma alone said chocolate all the way, but the flavor and quality did not disappoint. It was rich, moist and oh so chocolatey … definitely lip-licking good. *(note that the chocolate cake does contain honey and thus may not be suitable for strict vegans) Since pumpkin bread is one of my all time favorite fall breads, I do consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur on this subject. The drizzle of icing was just enough, but even if the loaf did not contain icing, it would still be a hit in my book. The mini loaf was soft, moist, packed with fall flavor and dense, the way pumpkin bread should be. The chocolate chip cookies were excellent. The ratio of chips to cookie was perfect, just the right amount for little chubby fingers. My son could not get enough of these, and if he could have, he would have eaten the entire package in one sitting.
With any product, you should always read the labels carefully to ensure that is it safe to consume. Now when it comes to prices it may leave a whole in your wallet. At $6.25 for an 8oz mini loaf plus shipping, this is a tad steep. But on the other hand, when paying for a quality gourmet product it seems worth the price, especially if you are not an avid baker. These mini loaves and cookies can be frozen and pulled out for that perfect occasion, a person on the run, or whenever you are hankering for a slice of banana bread. I recommend taking a peak at the website to see the entire list of products available at www.sweetalexis.com. Quote this article on your site | Print
