I enjoyed the mild sweet flavor of this variety, offset slightly with a hint of cinnamon. It is possible that there was more than a “hint”, as I am a big fan of all things cinnamon. Beyond the organic sugar, organic cinnamon, and kosher sea salt, little chunks of dried apples and a few raisins were scattered throughout. I am someone who likes to “beef” up my breakfasts whenever possible. I found that ground flaxseeds, chopped walnuts, and some additional raisins went very well with the Apple Cinnamon variety, although I enjoyed it with or without the additions. I would not hesitate to have AltiPlano’s Apple Cinnamon Hot Quinoa Cereal again; in fact, I would say it is easily my second choice, next to the Date Orange variety. Overall AltiPlano Gold Instant Hot Quinoa Cereal Review: AltiPlano Gold has taken a fantastic healthy grain and transformed it into a deliciously convenient breakfast. Quinoa is a staple in our household, but like rice, it takes a little bit of warning time to cook. Time…something few of us have an abundance of in the mornings. Luckily, AltiPlano Gold utilizes organic flaked quinoa (rather than whole grain quinoa), which cooks up in a snap, literally. It can be prepared via hot water or microwave in less than two minutes. The microwave produced a thicker product, but I preferred the more natural taste and consistency from boiled hot water (made easy thanks to my trusty Canadian electric teakettle). The texture is reminiscent of cream of wheat, smooth and well for lack of a better word creamy. As someone who likes to customize my cereal, I found the consistency of this hot cereal to be a great backdrop for most mix-ins, including raisins, dried cranberries, crystallized ginger, nut butters, ground flaxseed, and chopped walnuts. I will likely remain ‘somewhat’ loyal to my hearty bowl of morning oats (masterfully created to my order). However, I do prefer to vary my “grains” and quinoa instant hot cereal seems like a tasty way to do so.
