Bakery on Main Fiber Power Granola (Egg-Free, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

Wholesome ingredients? Check. Gluten- and Dairy-Free? Check. Nice audible crunch? Check. Excellent balance of fats (7g), protein (8g), fiber (9g), and sugars (8g)? Check. Great taste? Well, great may be pushing it a wee bit.

Though honey (yep, sorry, not strictly vegan) and rice syrup rank as ingredients number two and three, the Triple Berry Fiber Power Granola seems a bit too void of sweetness. As for the berry flavor, the “antioxidant berry blend” is the second to last ingredient, just before salt, and that about sums up the fruit injection in this cereal. It was more like a plain granola with berry essence than what I would consider a berry granola. Just a few teeny tiny berry bits and a fruity influence, but not the punch of summer that I was anticipating.

Also, the added fiber seems to equate to a slightly drier texture, at least for this brand. Not a bad thing for dousing with milk alternative; in fact, it should hold up nicely as breakfast cereal. But alas, all I had was a sample pack, so I was trialing it as a snack straight from the bag.

Since I am a lover of all things cinnamon, and raisins tend to add more sweetness, I held out hope that I would like the Cinnamon Raisin Fiber Power Granola much better.

The cinnamon was a very nice touch and it was generous enough to be detected in the flavor. But other than that, the granola itself was pretty much the same as the Berry Power version. It was a bit dry and somewhat flat in flavor. I prefer to eat granola out of hand as a snack, and felt that it needed a wee bit more sugar, fat, and another pinch of salt to propel it to the next level. Of course, more raisins would help the sweetness factor. The raisins were enormous, bu they were far and few between. I would rather see smaller raisins in higher quantity, so that I could enjoy them with each bite. I think when doused with a slightly sweetened milk alternative, this cereal would perk up quite a bit (especially as the cinnamon spreads its goodness into the "milk"), but I would still toss in a handful of additional raisins to finish it off.

I am truly pleased with the natural focus of Bakery on Main, and look forward to coming across some of their other products in the future … this particular granola just isn’t going to make it onto my “to purchase” list.

Note: Bakery on Main is a gluten-free company, and they work to avoid cross-contamination. Contact them for more details if gluten is a no-go for you.
