Nature’s Path Optimum Power Oatmeal (Organic, Vegan, Wheat-Free) PDF Print E-mail

As long time fans of the Optimum Power cereal, we were eager to try this new product from Nature’s Path.  This is definitely a “grown-up” version of the sugary instant oatmeal packets.  Slightly lower in sugar, it has a pleasant, more sedated sweetness that we found perfect in the morning.  The quick oats are also spiked with chopped soy nuts, flaxseeds, and dried blueberries.  Overall, the hot version was obviously quite different from its cold cereal counterpart, but we felt that both the flavor and the slightly hearty consistency made the transition well.  The high Omega-3 content, fair amount of fiber, and touch of protein also supported the excellent nutrient mix that the Optimum Power cereal had been known for.  The one caveat, along with the grown-up taste and ingredients, we had expected to see adult serving sizes.  In this respect, I felt that the word “power” may have been used a touch liberally.  At only 150 calories per package, my husband had to use two to get him going.  Unfortunately, this doubled his sugar intake as well.  I added 1/3 cup of oats to mine, to make a more filling and fiber rich cereal.  The sweetness was still maintained, but with a little less flavor “power”.  I would love to see Nature’s Path up the fiber content of this hot cereal vis-à-vis additional oats.  This upgrade would complete their high quality instant oatmeal.

  • Pros:  Organic; Vegan; Wheat-Free; Good flavor and ingredients; Lower sugar than most sweetened instant oatmeal brands; Good source of Omega-3’s
  • Cons:  The overall sizing, calories, and quantity of oats is low for a sustainable breakfast
