It turns out that One Lucky Duck’s Crispies were intended as cereal! In my ignorance, this delight made it into the snack category. However, since I liked them so much as a munchie, I have opted to leave up the snack review, and simply supplement it with a cereal review. So after being clued into the breakfast properties of these Crispies, I grabbed a package of Almond Milk and dutifully went back to taste testing (with a twist of my rubber arm). The Cinnamon Crispies made a wonderful breakfast cereal. They were very simple, crunchy, and just slightly sweetened. In fact, they had just enough (maple) sugar to compliment my unsweetened almond milk. Yet, they were not too sugary for a standard rice or soymilk (both of which tend to be much sweeter). Although I sampled them with just a dousing of milk alternative, this cereal would make an excellent backdrop for some seasonal berries, chopped apples, raisins, or banana slices.
I would liken the Cocoa Crispies to adult cocoa pebbles. They turned my almond milk the faintest chocolate color for some childhood reminiscing. Though the overly sweet, unnatural chocolate flavor was thankfully not present. On the contrary, these Crispies offered a light sweetness with pure cocoa flavor. Unfortunately, chocolate in any intensity is too much for my taste buds prior to noon. To mellow the chocolate, I stirred in an equal amount of Cinnamon Crispies. As luck would have it, they complimented each other very nicely, and I devoured the entire bowl without feeling the slightest cocoa or sugar rush.
Though I really do love both Crispy flavors as a snack, they do make an excellent hearty cereal. They hold up in milk (alternative) nicely, maintaining their crunchiness for a good 5 to 10 minutes at least (they didn’t last longer than this in my bowl). I did find them to be quite filling at first. I was only able to finish a small bowl before feeling satiated. However, within an hour, I toyed with the idea of going back for seconds. Cinnamon Crispies Ingredients: organic buckwheat, organic maple syrup, organic cinnamon, vanilla extract, Himalayan crystal salt. Cocoa Crispies Ingredients: organic buckwheat, organic maple syrup, organic cocoa powder, organic cinnamon, vanilla extract, Himalayan crystal salt. My Extra Notes and Tips: - As exhibited by their Crispies, One Lucky Duck is a well-kept gluten-free secret. Since it targets the raw and vegan audience, many other special diets are overlooked. Their products are also free of eggs, dairy, wheat, gluten, and soy. Not to mention, they use organic ingredients wherever possible.
- Buckwheat is a cool food. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a cereal grain, but rather a fruit seed related to rhubarb. It is rich in magnesium and fiber. You can read more about its healthy promoting benefits (including cardiovascular, blood sugar control, and cancer prevention) on the World’s Healthiest Foods website.
Where to Purchase: Order all natural, organic, and “raw” snacks direct from One Lucky Duck online. They also sell the wonderful ingredients they utilize in their finished products. Though located in the U.S., One Lucky Duck does ship internationally. Quote this article on your site
