Gak’s Snacks Organic Oatmeal Cookies (Vegan, Nut-Free, Wheat-Free) PDF Print E-mail

About a year ago, I reported on two of the most awesome cookies on the market, the Chocolate Chip and Brownie Chip cookies from Gak’s Snacks.  Those soft and indulgent cookies left my taste buds longing for more.  So when I was offered some samples of the new Oatmeal cookies from Gak’s, there was no way I could refuse.

Gak's Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Like the others, this Oatmeal cookie is certified organic, and comes in a generous (just a notch under jumbo) size.  It was a bit heartier than its predecessors, with just barely enough sweetness to qualify as a dessert. Of course, this mild sweetness had many pluses over its sugar-rush competitors.  One was the wonderful guilt-free feeling that I had after downing the entire cookie.  Another was the fact that a mild yet pleasant aftertaste lingered, leaving me with no further sugar cravings.  I don’t know about you, but every time I have an overly sweet treat, I seem to long for more … and more … !  In addition to the obvious cookie flavor, I detected a bit of applesauce, and a mild dose of spices.

The texture was pleasing, yet a bit unique.  It was soft and somewhat cakey, with a slight low fat cookie texture.  Actually, the cakey-ness made me think that these would be fun to decorate for a birthday party.  Some allergen-friendly frosting and sprinkles would go perfectly.  I really liked the definite oat-based taste and texture, and found the low fat consistency to be the only off-putting note.  I might add just a touch more oil to the batter, but that’s just me.

Overall, Gak’s has once again proven that good cookies can be made allergen-free!

Gak's Chocolate Oatmeal CookiesAdditional Notes:

  • These cookies are available both in boxes, as pictured above, and single serve for popping into lunch boxes!
  • In the photo you can see a bit of a book. I have included a better pic at right so you can get a better view of this great cookbook which is by the founder of Gak's Snacks.  She shares all of her baking secrets!

Where to Purchase: Visit the Gak's Snacks website to purchase your own supply of cookies.  They even sell a great cookbook and supplies for your own at home "safe" baking.
