After enjoying their granola, I was excited to dive into the cookies from Jake Bakes. While I would have naturally lunged at the cookies first, I do have my limits, and cookies for breakfast just barely crosses them. But, once that clock struck noon, those neat little packages didn’t stand a chance. Oatmeal Raisin Somehow, I felt that I could pat myself on the back by selecting the “more virtuous” oatmeal raisin variety first. I know, they are still cookies, but oatmeal and raisins? It just sounds healthy doesn’t it? Okay, they didn’t taste healthy, but they did taste good! My first response was to note the very sweet and slightly buttery flavor with that distinct and comforting oat taste. They had that perfectly chewy cookie texture and a slightly dense, yet rich, feel. Packed with plump raisins (it was impossible to take a bite without one), the overall cookie was just a touch too sweet for me to eat more than one in a sitting, but according to my hips, that really isn’t a bad thing. Ingredients: Certified gluten-free oat flour, raisins, organic brown sugar, organic mesquite flour, canola oil, rice milk, organic flax seed, pure vanilla extract, baking soda, salt.
Oatty Chocolate Chip The first bite of this oatty chocolate chip goodness literally melted atop my tongue! While it was still, most certainly, an oat cookie, they seemed to focus less on the oats in this one and more on the overall cookie backdrop. And of course, the chocolate chips took center stage. Once again, not a bite went by without a delicious chocolate chunk. I am not someone who reaches for chocolate flavored items. Give me the choice between vanilla and chocolate “ice cream” and I will jump at the vanilla, every time. But, I do love chocolate chips. In our household it is a constant battle over the chocolate chip bag, as it gradually widdles down to empty without the oven ever turning on. Needless to say, this was my cookie! I also liked that the Oatty Chocolate Chip was a bit less sweet than the Oatmeal Raisin. It was still cookie sweet, but perfectly so, and not the least bit over the top. Ingredients: Certified gluten-free oat flour, semi-sweet chocolate chips (sugar, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, gluten-free vanillin), organic brown sugar, organic mesquite flour, canola oil, rice milk, organic flax seed, pure vanilla extract, baking soda, salt. Just a final note, each tidy little package (gift quality really) contains 6 medium-sized cookies. This is a third party review by Alisa Fleming, author of Go Dairy Free: The Guide & Cookbook.
