Lovely Oh’s - Dark Chocolate Covered Sandwich Cookies (Vegan) PDF Print E-mail

Liz Lovely Oh'sBy Alisa Fleming, Go Dairy Free ~ It didn’t take long for my husband to ask if he could ruin the flawless packaging to dive in for a sample of Lovely Oh’s.  The willpower of my resident chocoholic didn’t stand a chance when faced with these picture perfect goodies.

Finished in mere seconds, he gave me an enthusiastic “that was good!” for his two thumbs up approval.  However, I am a tougher nut to crack when it comes to chocolate delicacies.  Aside from a daily square or two of a nice dark, chocolate doesn’t rank highly in my list of favorite flavors.

Yet, it was hard not to be impressed and allured by the site of these gems … Oreo-like cookies completely enrobed in a smooth blanket of dark chocolate with not a blemish visible to the naked eye.  Though I was hesitant to destroy such a work of pastry art, I finally gave into curiosity and sampled my first Lovely Oh.

The dark chocolate coating was relatively thick and intense.  Liz Lovely uses a real dark for this treat; it tasted like a 70% dark with a slight bitter kick.  The bold chocolate definitely contrasted the much more sedated sandwich cookie it enclosed.  For my own preferences, it was a bit too much chocolate at first … but as my taste buds settled in, and the cookie crème filling emerged, I found myself craving the next chocolaty bite.  Of course, a nice glass of cool almond milk (or soymilk, or rice milk) really would have maximized the entire experience.

With each passing bite, it became more evident that Liz Lovely created this luxurious blend with grown-ups specifically in mind.  The chocolate was a bit too overpowering for immature tastes, but the deep dark spoke to my (slightly) aged palate, while the cookie indulged many of my childhood memories.

Though I am not the best judge of chocolate desserts, I would venture to say that Lovely Oh’s are bound to be an award winner in the vegan circle and beyond!  Now, if I can just convince them to make a white chocolate coated vanilla sandwich cookie.

Note: Lovely Oh’s are certified organic and certified vegan.  They are also available in Cocoa Oh’s (chocolate crème filling) and Ginger Oh’s (ooh, considering my penchant for ginger, I should probably trial these!).

Where to Purchase: Liz Lovely cookies are available in some stores (check places like Whole Foods), but more easily, you can purchase all of their cookies direct at the Liz Lovely website.
