Nutritious Creations Gluten-Free Cookies (Vegan, Gluten-Free) PDF Print E-mail

Last week a big huge box arrived at my house from Nutritious Creations. I tore into it wondering what it was … hopefully something yummy and already cooked as I was getting a little tired of cooking and baking! Much to my delight I found a box stuffed with cookies from Nutritious Creations and their new Gluten and Dairy Free (and vegan!) cookies! Jackpot!!!

Nutritious Creations Cookies

I opened the box and discovered these gigantic, yummy looking cookies. They are roughly the size of a cookie you would find in a deli or maybe Dunkin Donuts- so they are comparable to the competition. There were three varieties in the box, chocolate chip, carrot cake, and ... coconut chip. The last selection stopped me in my tracks. I am deathly allergic to coconut, literally. Luckily, my family was on hand and happy to taste test that one!

What I liked about the cookies at first glance was that they were free from refined sugars (still contained a lot of sugar- but at least it's natural sugar!), they are gluten and dairy free, and also free from eggs which makes them a great choice for someone who is a vegan. There are also NO hydrogenated oils, which is a HUGE plus in picking a snack for the Peanut. I feel like most snacks now- unless they are organic or natural- contain hydrogenated oils. And who needs those?

What I didn't like about the cookie at first glance was the fact that ONE cookie was TWO servings. I understand in the world of portion control and mind control we really shouldn't need this whole cookie. But I really needed to eat the whole cookie. So, just be warned. One cookie is 380 calories.

Let's get the coconut chip cookie taste out of the way- I didn't try it- I want to live to see 26. Everyone who tried it- loved it! "Moist, chewy." "just the right amount of coconut and sweetness." "Wish I could have more." Go ahead have seconds, I'm not eating them. 'Really rich." 'Excellent cookie.' About six people tried them and would have them again! So for a healthy cookie this one made the grade with the non-health crowd.

Up next was the regular chocolate chip cookie. This one was great too. It was moist and chewy with just the right amount of sweetness. My only regret was that there were not more chocolate chips! But that's my preference for cookies- extra chips! It was a very soft cookie too, which would make this a good treat for a small child or hungry adult. The Peanut and I split pretty much every single chocolate chip cookie in the box.

The carrot cake cookie was an interesting variety. I love carrot cake covered with nice cream cheese frosting and although I haven't had it in forever I can still taste it! Yummy! So imagine my surprise when this cookie tasted like a light refreshing piece of carrot cake, just without the frosting. It contains walnuts and raisins along with real carrot piece, so this would not be a good choice for someone with nut allergies. The cookie was not as moist as the chocolate chip cookie, but was wonderfully soft and chewy. The flavor was sweet enough to be called dessert but also light enough that you could eat it and not feel too guilty about it. The Peanut let me enjoy most of these cookies, which I happily gobbled up for dessert almost every night. My mother tried them as well, and loved them.

Nutritious Creations Carrot Cake Cookies

For a product round up these are a great choice when it comes to eating gluten and dairy free. Although I probably wouldn't put them in my lunch box as a snack just due to the serving size (since I couldn’t stop at a half a cookie), for an indulgent treat I would reach for these cookies any day!

Nutritious creations lies about their calories. Their calories are double what they say they are.
