Sunflour Bakery Club Cookie Kit PDF Print E-mail

Sarah Hatfield, No Whey Mama - The other day we received an October Club Cookie kit from Sunflour Bakery.

Cookie Kit

Nestled in a jack o’ lantern box we found a package of ten pumpkin cookies, three bags of orange and yellow frosting, and three containers of Halloween sprinkles.  Unfortunately, three of the ten cookies were broken, and a couple more were chipped.  Also, one of the containers of sprinkles had opened up on the journey from California to Pennsylvania.  All of the sprinkles were in the pumpkin box, though, so we managed to pick them up.  Then the fun began.

We snipped the tips off of the frosting bags and began to decorate.  The frosting is a little difficult for small hands to spread because it is stiff, but when it dries it has a very pretty sheen.  My daughter had lots of fun with the sprinkles and even decorated the broken cookie pieces.

Finally, it was time to eat, and the reviews were unanimous:

“Great!”
“They taste like you just picked them up at a bakery.”
“They taste like they were just baked.”
“They taste like Eat n’ Park smiley face cookies!”  (This is a high compliment from someone from Western PA.)

As for my dairy-allergic daughter, she was thrilled that something prebaked and so much fun was safe for her to decorate and eat.

The Sunflour Bakery website says that the monthly Club Cookie mailings include twelve undecorated cookies, three sprinkle packets, three frosting tubes, one disposable apron, and one decorated cookie for $29.95.  There is a different theme every month.  A three-month membership is $89.95, a six-month membership is $174. 95, and a twelve-month membership is $ 349.95.  All memberships include free shipping, and the six- and twelve- month plans include a complimentary kit for a friend.  The twelve-month membership includes a complimentary birthday kit as well.

While we all loved the cookies, and I could see ordering a single kit for a special occasion or birthday, the membership prices are a bit steep for our family.  To me, Club Cookie seems like a perfect “grandma gift.”  Or, it could be handy for family functions where the host wants to make sure there is something fun and safe for dairy-allergic children to do.

Cookie Ingredients: unbleached wheat flour, certified organic sugar, trans-fat free vegetable shortening, eggs, filtered water, baking powder, and sea salt.

Sarah's daughter has a milk allergy, so she shares her favorite recipes, stories and ideas on her blog No Whey Mama.
