The Raw Bakery Carob Pistachio Brownie (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

Like their Carob Noisette Brownie, the Raw Bakery’s Carob Pistachio Brownie is a nutrition powerhouse.  It’s ingredient statement reads like an inventory list at Whole Foods Market: raw almonds, deglet dates, organic medjool dates, raw hazelnuts, raw pistachios, and raw carob powder.  The fiber dense dates provide all natural sugars, while the blend of rich nuts offers healthy oils, protein, and the base for the brownie.

This selection has a slightly stronger carob presence than their Carob Noisette Brownie.  Though I am a fan of carob, I did prefer the Noisette Brownie to this one.  The pistachio-carob blend made for a bar that held more contrasting flavors of bitter and sweet.

Similar to the other Raw Bakery brownies, this variety is dense and smooth with a marzipan-like flavor and texture.  I found it to be perfectly sized as a filling snack, but not a bit heavy.  In fact, it gave me a good boost of energy that kept me going for several hours.

This is certainly more of a snack bar than a brownie, which may fit the bill nicely when you are looking for something that isn’t too sweet.  Typically, when I eat a cookie, brownie, or energy bar I tend to crave more sugar.  Yet after I trialed this “brownie” I was quite satisfied and the only thing that sounded good later in the day was fresh fruit or crackers.

  • Pros:  Free of dairy, soy, gluten, wheat, eggs, and everything but the six ingredients noted above; Vegan; Appropriate for raw food diets (100% raw); Naturally sweetened; Good nutritional value
  • Cons:  The flavor and texture may be particular to some, as it is a raw food twist that strays quite far from the traditional brownie; Nutritional values are not printed on the package

Recommended For:

  • Carob & Pistachio Fans
  • Raw Food Connoisseurs
  • A Vegan Gift Basket
  • A Nutritious, Whole Food Energy Bar
  • Snacking

Do you have any carob bars with peanuts that are sugar free - I bought them before at BJ's but they don't carry them anymore.
