The Raw Bakery Cocoa Walnut Brownie (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

The Cocoa Walnut Brownie came wrapped in a beautiful yet simple package that seemed perfect for an elegant gift basket.  Rich in finely ground almonds and hazelnuts the Cocoa Walnut Brownie takes on a familiar marzipan-like texture and flavor.  The additional blend of high quality deglet and organic medjool dates, and just a touch of cocoa (less than 5%) complete this simple, raw experience.  The texture is relatively smooth, with ground bits of nuts evident throughout.  I would hesitate to call this a brownie in description, but rather a slightly “fudgey” snack bar or treat.  While the sweetness of the dates shined through, they were counteracted by a touch of bitter from the nut pastes.  The cocoa was evident and added a mild chocolate flavor, though it was not the predominant flavor by any means.

Upon first bite, this brownie did not appeal to my partner taster, who has a strong distaste for marzipan.  Luckily, I was quite content to enjoy the brownie myself.  It is modest in size (just under 3 square inches), but realistically, the perfect serving amount for one person.  I was able to savor it for a good 10 minutes, while eliminating my afternoon sweet tooth, guilt-free.  I also like that it didn’t weigh me down, but still held my appetite until dinner.

  • Pros: 99.5% raw (just the organic cocoa is baked); Truly natural; Vegan; Gluten-free; Soy-free; Made with organic ingredients; Basically guilt free; Neat, simple, gift basket quality packaging
  • Cons: For those not versed with the raw experience, this is not a true “brownie”; Slightly bitter aftertaste; The nutrition info is not listed on the packaging

Recommended For:

  • A New Experience for Marzipan Fans
  • Vegans
  • Raw Foodies
  • Guilt-Free Fulfillment of an Afternoon Sweet Tooth
  • A Quick and Lasting Energy Boost
