Vegan Delights Oatmeal Cookies (Vegan) PDF Print E-mail
The pleasant scent and initial bold flavor of pure maple syrup immediately caught our attention with these delicious cookies.  The taste was unique (from "traditional" cookies), but it worked.  The maple syrup did not overpower.  It blended perfectly with the oatmeal base and orange zest that each taster detected.  The other high quality ingredients (evaporated cane juice, organic flours, vanilla, cinnamon, etc.) pulled it all together to create a true cookie experience.  In fact, the texture was very similar to the “tollhouse” variety.  They were soft and chewy, but not a bit greasy or cake-like.

Though they were made with mostly oats and whole-wheat flour, the addition of some white flour kept these cookies from being too heavy.  Oh, and did I mention the big walnut chunks throughout? - A definite bonus.  This is not something I would not usually say, but I was actually glad that Vegan Delights opted to keep these oatmeal cookies simple by preparing them sans raisins and chocolate chips.

As recommended, I also tried freezing a couple of the cookies.  Once frozen, I took them out for just a couple of minutes to soften (and to spare my teeth!).  They were surprisingly good cold, taking on a more butterscotch-like flavor with a chewy texture.  I really like this idea for tackling cookie cravings on warm summer days.

Overall, these were hearty cookies, yet very sweet and dessert like.  I would call them a crowd pleaser for vegans and non-vegans alike.  They are great for cravings, but healthy enough to keep moms, and our consciences, happy.  Even our pickiest cookie connoisseur gave them two thumbs up, so it looks like we have a winner!

  • Pros:  Made with (mostly) organic ingredients; Vegan (of course); Good source of whole grains and nutritional ingredients; Tasty dessert yet low on guilt; Cute, simple packaging with perfectly sized cookies (about 2.5” in diameter)
  • Cons: The nutritional information (beyond ingredients) is not listed on the wrapper; Top quality organic ingredients and “homemade” come with a slightly higher price

Recommended For:

  • Lunchboxes
  • Snack Drawer at the Office
  • (Soy) milk Dunking for Kids
  • Freezing
  • College Gift Baskets

The ingredients are too good to ignore, so I feel it is my duty to include them in this review: walnuts, organic oats, organic whole-wheat pastry flour, organic dates, organic evaporated cane juice, organic maple syrup, organic unbleached white flour, organic orange juice, organic unrefined extra-virgin olive oil, organic un-sulphured blackstrap molasses, organic vanilla extract, soy lecithin, cinnamon, organic orange zest, sea salt and other natural spices.
