Flavor: Chocolate

We had a few tasters sample this flavor, as we had high hopes for the organic dark chocolate used.  Unfortunately, it seemed to compete with the sugar in the bar, making a somewhat muted chocolate flavor.  Our preference would be for an Original Bobo’s Oat Bar, tossed with dark chocolate chips.  That being said, we still enjoyed it as a less sweet bar, more suitable with tea or coffee.

Bobo's Oat Bar Overall Review:

There is a lot of love in these delicious, high-energy bars!  I was at a soccer tournament looking for an early morning pre-game charger.  I spotted the Bobo’s Oat Bars in my bag, and after a quick scan of the ingredients and nutrient mix, I went for the Coconut.  Before I could even get the package open, my weekend roommate and fellow teammate leaned over and, and with a tone of jealousy, asked if I had anymore.  I tossed her the Strawberry Bar.  The bars were only about 180/170 calories respectively, but they were so filling that each of us only made it 2/3 of the way through.  Needless to say, I was a little concerned about making it through an entire game with only 120 calories in my stomach.  The mix of sugars, oats, and oils must have been perfect, both of us made it through the game without a grumble or a crash!  And the taste?  We both dove into our bags for the last bits of bar as soon as we got off the field.  I can honestly say that these are not your typical bars.  The texture is made of chewy hand rolled oats, and the flavors remind you that this is a made-from-scratch, all natural bar.  Bobo and her mom have gone out of their way to use organic ingredients and Earth Balance Shortening, definitely not the cheapest on the market, but free of hydrogenated oils and a top choice for dairy free consumers.  The only major downfall:  Aside from online, these babies can be hard to find outside of Boulder, Colorado.  Although they are $2 a bar if you buy them online, I say worth it.

  • Pros: High quality, organic ingredients; Vegan; Wheat-free; Homemade taste and texture
  • Cons: Limited availability

Recommended For:

  • Pre-Activity Energy
  • Sweet Treat
  • Afternoon Boost
  • Oat Fans

Where to Buy:

  • Onilne - Direct from Bobo's
  • In Stores - Primarily in natural food stores in Colorado, but distribution may expand
