Clif Nectar Bar – Dark Chocolate & Walnut (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

I managed to get a hold of another $.50 off coupon for Clif’s Nectar Bars, and headed straight for the Dark Chocolate & Walnut.  It had received the most rave reviews of all the Nectar Bars, so it seemed the obvious choice.

This bar has a seriously deep dark chocolate flavor.  I may even go so far as to call it “intense chocolate.”  In fact, I almost forgot (for a moment) that the base was made up of dates.  For a no sugar added, free of all major allergens, chocolate bar it was pretty impressive.  This is still more of an energy bar than a chocolate bar, but it did satisfy my long-standing chocolate craving.

The ingredients are incredible, just organic dates, organic walnuts, organic unsweetened chocolate, organic cocoa, and organic vanilla.   The texture is thick, chewy, and a bit drier than the Cinnamon Pecan variety (though still very moist), likely due to the addition of cocoa and chocolate.  There are also notable chunks of walnuts throughout.

I would definitely buy this bar again (perhaps even at full price) to cover a chocolate craving.  Though as one of those rare women with more vanilla cravings than chocolate, my top choice is still the Cinnamon Pecan Nectar Bar.

  • Pros:  Organic, Raw, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Corn-Free – suitable to just about every diet except nut-free; Perfect flavor blend; Sweet, but no added sugars; Good source of potassium and fiber; About as natural as an energy bar can get; Fairly low  in calories (160)
  • Cons: Actual “sugars” are high due to the dates; Not for the date averse

Recommended for:

  • Chocolate Cravings
  • Organic & Raw Food Diets
  • Quick Energy
  • Afternoon Treat

Where to Buy:

  • Online – You can purchase them from the guys at Clif Bar, but they are almost half the price on Amazon (only $7.25 for 9 bars)
  • In Store – These seem to be popping up in grocery stores everywhere, but your best odds are at natural food grocers.
