HoneyBar – Soya Mix: Organic or Natural (Egg-Free, Gluten-Free) PDF Print E-mail

Please Note: This variety has been discontinued ...

... but, other Honeybar flavors are still available.

This snack is loaded with crunchy bits of soya nuts, whole soybeans that have been soaked and roasted.  As a very rare consumer of soy nuts I wasn’t sure what to expect.  To my pleasant surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed the Soya Mix HoneyBar.  It had a very different texture and flavor from the other nut and seed varieties.  The mild flavor of the soy nuts was contrasted by their very crispy-crunchy texture, which reminded me somewhat of corn nuts.  The soy nuts were chopped into very small pieces to create more of a granola bar-like consistency overall.  The addition of chopped almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, raisins, and honey rounded out the mix to create a sweet, nutrient packed, treat.  Unlike some overly “seedy” bars, the honey seemed to meld very well with this variety.  Although a touch high in fat for a little bar, 11g, we would expect that the nut and seed blend would provide some good Omega-3’s.  The lack of sodium and cholesterol coupled with a high soy-based protein content, 9g, help to balance out the added sugars from the honey.

  • Pros: 100% Certified organic variety available; High in soy based proteins; Rich in “good” fats; Great crunchy texture; Mild and sweet flavor; Gluten-free
  • Cons:  A touch high in sugars (12g) and calories (220) for daily snacking

Recommended For:

  • A Crispy-Crunchy Variation on the Granola Bar
  • Post-Workout Energy
  • Afternoon Snack
  • Soy Nut or Corn Nut Fans

Natural vs Organic:

This HoneyBar comes in both the Natural (all natural ingredients, no preservatives) and 100% Certified Organic.  We only trialed the Natural Bar in this case, therefore a comparison would be difficult.  However, a quick scan of the ingredients tells us that these two varieties should be very similar (beyond the all-organic ingredients of course).  One small exception, the Natural Bar has just a touch of cashew pieces, a component not found in the Organic Soya Mix Bar.

Where to Buy:

  • Online – U.S. shoppers will find all HoneyBar varieties on Amazon, Canadian shoppers should head to the healthy shopper.
  • In Store - Natural Food Grocers in the U.S. and Canada
