Larabar - Cocoa Mole (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

To be honest, the “cocoa’ concept for these bars didn’t really capture my interest … I purchased this bar by mistake, thinking I was getting another flavor.  Call me crazy, but the concept of cocoa powder combined with dates has just never sent my cravings soaring.  Regardless, I was hungry, and it was the last bar flavor left.

As it turns out, many things about this bar did excite my senses.  The vibrant cinnamon scent created that necessary intrigue for me to want to dive in, a warm and spicy aftertaste added some serious zest to the entire bar idea, and the consistency was very pleasant, traditional soft Larabar spiked with chunks of nuts.

But alas, the actual flavor, while not bad, tasted mostly of dates.  I wasn’t overwhelmed with cinnamon or chocolate to taste, but rather the standard taste of sweet dates.

The mole idea is one I will definitely pay more attention too in the future, but as expected, the date backdrop just didn’t do it the justice that my taste buds felt it deserved.  Perhaps a cocoa and cinnamon supertaster will disagree!

Larabar

Where to Purchase: Larabars can be found in many grocery stores and natural food stores.  I recommend purchasing them when they go on sale, as they are in the mid to high range cost-wise for a bar in my opinion.  However, they can be purchased online for a fair price anytime!

Ingredients
Dates, Almonds, Walnuts, Cocoa, Cinnamon, and Chili.
